  1. There was some discussion about this a while back by the dude who put a ‘“new route” next to toxic shock and another on mt si haystack!
  2. I think all it takes is one case of giardia to change your mind if you don't do it. I have never had giardia, but I've been on trips where almost everyone else on the trip got it, and it had nothing to do with the hygiene campers and everything to do with the water. One particular case was the using the water at Lake of the Angels without boiling (or method of choice then) or filtering. I'm not sure why I never got it, other than I was raised on a very questionable water supply. In the Lake of the Angels case, I just didn't drink the water except for after boiling it.. I'm sure statistically you also don't need to bring the "10 essentials" on a trips. But the one time you need something, you'll be glad you drug that stuff along. I do filter, for that reason alone. It also allows me to drink suspect water if I can't find anything else...you know the kind...like you don't know if some animal shit in it or whatever.
  3. I think marching up and down the square is just unpopular for some reason
  4. Seconded! you can live on the other coast and still be a PNWer, especially if this is where your heart is.. Also there is a kids climbing forum too.
  5. Dang you got me excited about erratics! https://nwgeology.wordpress.com/the-fieldtrips/glacial-erratic-field-trips/the-lake-stevens-monster-largest-erratic-in-washington-largest-in-the-us/ there is even bolt chopping talk in the comments!
  6. I know there was some talk of one in North Seattle a while back...was it Wedgewood (listed as illegal to climb on): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacial_erratic_boulders_of_King_County,_Washington#List_of_boulders
  7. There are a number of reasons but the lights are still on and we are going to work to make the site more useful. All the old users may never come back. There are number of climbers that have moved on from here to the “big time”, and they are posting to Alpinist and sharing on their own blog. There are a number of people that find it easy just to log in to Facebook and live in that bubble of reality. i think here our goal will be to keep the database of TRs available and continue to tinker and make the site better. I think you’ll notice so really good things we have going now.

  9. For some reason that band kind of reminds me of KISS @KaskadskyjKozak ! The Swedes do devil worship right. I heard about this band from some Yahoo! news article that said they up to possibly win a bunch of Grammys. Not sure yet, but there is a lot of energy that is for sure:
  10. Wow what an awesome trip/adventure! Thank you for sharing!
  11. If you could ever measure the amount of fun-filled stoke one person gave in a life time, Warren Miller has to be at the top of the list. Even is you weren't a skier, you couldn't help but catch some enthusiasm for life and the outdoors after watching one of Warren's films and listening to him narrate in that legendary voice. The positive and fun vibe you left with after taking in one of his yearly stoke experiences will be missed, but he really just started the fire...now its up to the kids to keep it going! RIP Warren and thank you!
  12. Hilarious... @JasonG beat me to it here in his own post, which is actually mentioned in the article!
  13. And a few other cascadeclimber folks. https://www.powder.com/stories/the-legendary-story-of-a-mysterious-solo-ski-mountaineer/ Dan is an awesome wood carving artist, if you haven't checked out his stuff you should.
  14. Many of the cascadeclimbers.com family/community know Russ and Leah, they are one of us. If you have the means, please consider contributing something to the Ricketts as they bravely battle through this adversity. The GoFundMe was created by yet another cc.com user. https://www.gofundme.com/the-ricketts-family-needs-our-help
