The rivers and streams were gushing in the summer there is normally a big beach down there you can go and hang out at after climbing...channel was completely full.

I was super bored yesterday so i hiked up to toxic shock. Then the dog wanted to keep going from there, and we ended up going further back up in there, and then up the the hill for a brush slog (at a few points I had to hoist him up to then next ledge of moss and mud). We kept going up till we reached the plateau at the top which is logged. From there there was a new logging road the hooks up with the road to the radio towers up there and then to the ATV/motorcycle area, and back to Reiter Rd...walked that back to the climbers parking lot. It was as random as you can get and I'm sure I could have picked better hikes (most of it was the road back to the parking lot), but it was a fine day to hang out with Kiba.

Good to hear from you @Dannible I think the difference is this is really a community the includes both people and you, people you don't, and people you may eventually meet (in differentiating it from Facebook for example). Thats for normal FB interaction. Of course you can get that from a Facebook group, but as others have mentioned Facebook doesn't have a database/archive. As for whether one posts here or not (or on any other site on the Internet), I think it is a personal thing. Some people are very private and almost religiously personal about their outdoor experiences. I can appreciate that. They aren't out there so they can drum up content to share and collect "Internet Points" on the images and video they capture. They are out there for the experience, and maybe leave the camera at home. It is one way of seeing things. On the flip side there are people that like to share...like to record their journey, like a journal but also share it online. Those are the ones that this site lives on. Yes, there are a few annoying narcissists in the bunch, but you have to take them because for everyone of them, there are some people who just honestly want to share their passion and connect with other like minded people for beta (route conditions, approach info, idea for the next mission, etc). That is what that site is about. Sharing stoke and information. How many times have you read a TR and just went nuts with the desire to get out into that country...and then made it happen? So I hope you do continue to post TRs. For everytime you log on here and read someone's TR and get stoked about getting out in the hills, there is another that fed off of your TR. But at the same time, you choose not to, thats fine too. But I hope you do. I think it was people like you that made the site great at its peak, who will connect with new registrations we are seeing pick up since the upgrade.

If someone else on here can't hook you up (always the preferred option!), I would advise you to buy a used REI rain shell off of craigslist or Ebay. That is what I use for my beater shell when I have to work out in the rain...those usually have all the features of expensive jackets, yet you can pick them up for cheap. Here is an example, you can "buy it now" for $28 plus shipping...I don't know the seller and buyer beware and all the stuff....but pretty cheap and decent shell IMO: https://www.ebay.com/itm/REI-Elements-Rain-Water-Resistant-Full-Zip-Hooded-Jacket-Green-Mens-Medium/162879662577?hash=item25ec6269f1:g:LIMAAOSwE8dacesw

I think the moving water thing isn’t that it is safer because it’s moving (there could be a carcass in the pool upstream) but that stagnate water has more time to collect contaminate. Not a scientific thought by any means, but that is how I’ve thought about it. Not a fan of standing water that is brackish or doesn’t look fresh.

Who would win, Montgomery Wick or Jonathan Hemlock?

and the cool thing is that it can continue to evolve with your input. this will be version 1.0 of the TR on this new software, just a starting point....

It was probably written by an anti-vaxer its a the same sort of decision by anecdote I also like how they seem to say the filtering your water is borne out of "white privilege", or that somehow since its rich white people they should know better than to filter their water? wtf is he saying there. and this isn't equating the people above who choose not to filter in every case to anti-vaxers...but rather the idea of publishing an article that cautions against caution just seems stupid.

Has anyone every tried the Bear Grylls technique of straining their own urine through a snake skin? In retrospect I guess I'm a selective filter person. But if it standing still, i'm filtering it for sure...and I always carry a filter.

I think all it takes is one case of giardia to change your mind if you don't do it. I have never had giardia, but I've been on trips where almost everyone else on the trip got it, and it had nothing to do with the hygiene campers and everything to do with the water. One particular case was the using the water at Lake of the Angels without boiling (or method of choice then) or filtering. I'm not sure why I never got it, other than I was raised on a very questionable water supply. In the Lake of the Angels case, I just didn't drink the water except for after boiling it.. I'm sure statistically you also don't need to bring the "10 essentials" on a trips. But the one time you need something, you'll be glad you drug that stuff along. I do filter, for that reason alone. It also allows me to drink suspect water if I can't find anything else...you know the kind...like you don't know if some animal shit in it or whatever.

I know there was some talk of one in North Seattle a while back...was it Wedgewood (listed as illegal to climb on): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacial_erratic_boulders_of_King_County,_Washington#List_of_boulders

There are a number of reasons but the lights are still on and we are going to work to make the site more useful. All the old users may never come back. There are number of climbers that have moved on from here to the “big time”, and they are posting to Alpinist and sharing on their own blog. There are a number of people that find it easy just to log in to Facebook and live in that bubble of reality. i think here our goal will be to keep the database of TRs available and continue to tinker and make the site better. I think you’ll notice so really good things we have going now.

For some reason that band kind of reminds me of KISS @KaskadskyjKozak ! The Swedes do devil worship right. I heard about this band from some Yahoo! news article that said they up to possibly win a bunch of Grammys. Not sure yet, but there is a lot of energy that is for sure:

Wow what an awesome trip/adventure! Thank you for sharing! -
If you could ever measure the amount of fun-filled stoke one person gave in a life time, Warren Miller has to be at the top of the list. Even is you weren't a skier, you couldn't help but catch some enthusiasm for life and the outdoors after watching one of Warren's films and listening to him narrate in that legendary voice. The positive and fun vibe you left with after taking in one of his yearly stoke experiences will be missed, but he really just started the fire...now its up to the kids to keep it going! RIP Warren and thank you!
