  1. The guy is the unsung hero in my book. And, he's never been with anything less than a 9!
  2. Lots of snakes out there, saw one yesterday at the base of the R&D.
  3. Rock Climbing Hawaii.com I agree with the others about just going snorkeling. It's just amazing. Bring an light wetsuit top or long sleeve rash guard to stay warm and protect from the sun. Rent the good snorkel setup, the cheap stuff sucks!
  4. Have heard there is some kind of sick bouldering cave right on the beach. Have personaly climbed on Oahu's north shore. Great black volcanic rock on the beach. Wear good shoes to protect feet from broken glass and needles.
  5. Almost killing yourself has always been a time honored climbing tradition. Learning valuable lessons from those close calls is another fine tradition.
  6. My dog, Baja. Best partner I've ever had.
  7. Kohler is the Colt Seavers of PNW rock climbing.
  8. Nice day, LMFA is a great route! The 70 meter rope works very well a Index.
  9. Only in Washington. "Hmmm, better back up this 3/8" chain, it's prolly good, but you just never know..."
  10. I'm sure that the Icicle Buttress has seen a couple epics in it's time. This spring's take: 2 slings 2 cordelettes 4 wires/ hexes 8 carabiners
  11. Maybe he got out of the helicopter early?
  12. Book has been given to my little bro, passing it on.
  13. Odds are that it was a rare north american Rubber boa constrictor. I have seen one on the ledge above the R&D chimney and, just last weekend, in a similar spot near Duty dome.
  14. Fun route, just did it for the first time the other day. A 60 meter rope just makes it to the top in one 'as long as they get pitch'. Belay from the base of the first pitch,* climb the variation, and use a lot of two foot slings on the upper half.
  15. Airsoft hunting is gaining popularity, I'm considering booking a 10 day airsoft combined moose/ brown bear hunt in Alaska.
  16. Brandishing any weapon/ sim weapon pubicly or in the presence of a LEO is a very serious mistake. Your local law enforcement officer deals with all kinds of crazy shit 9-5 every day, identifing and managing potential threats to his very life. They constantly have to think about the one thing that strikes every cop cold: getting supprised with deadly force. Many of them know of a fellow cop who got supprised, shot or killed by some guy with a gun. All vow not to let that happen to them. Responding to a brandishing call means serious business. What would you do if someone flashed a gun at you? Ten and two, hands stay on the wheel, carry your wallet and proof of insurance in the visor.

    Bear!

Dad and I saw two black bears in a day on the way up to Goat Flats last year.
  18. It's a vitamin D thang baby.
  19. Just bee calm when it happens to you, it's very frightening when there is no where to run.
  20. Wow, a very exciting thing happened today. Taking my boss out climbing today on some of the fine sandstone outside of Santa Barbara, we were doing a two pitch route. Sitting at the top of the second pitch, just put El Hefe on belay. A funny sound caught my attention. Hmmm, it's a swarm of bees, a really BIG swarm of bees. All around me thousands and thousands of bees. the swarm was 50 feet wide. Sure wish I wore a shirt, looks like I'm just gonna have to be calm. I yelled down to the old man to let him know what's going on, then just layed against the rock and after 10 minutes they passed, only to swarm down to the boss at the lower station. He copied the lay down move and he climbed away after 15 minutes with only one sting. Just watching him cower in the middle of the swarm was amazing, as I could neither lower him and climbing was out of the question. The whole thing was very frightening. Anybody ever have this happen? Let's hear your best insect incidents.
