If what you want is OMG-blow-your-hair-back awesome climbing I'd say go to the Winds. Wolf's Head is indeed super fun and there are endless beautiful lines there. Watch out for the afternoon thunderstorms though; they might blow your hair back for real.

Vedauwoo!!

Nice writeup, Sky. Thanks. Good call on the weather; we headed for the good forecast and got rained out.

Plus we got drunk (or was it just me?) and I taunted Kurt about his mom. It was extreme, bro. Actually the most extreme thing was how extremely bad my car smelled for a full week after that trip. ew.

AlpineK and I did it yesterday after getting the smackdown in the Pickets and there were no bugs at all. Lots of rotten snow for the surprise posthole effect, though. Also some snow on the upper pitches, which made for some spicy moves in rock shoes.

Nice job, dude! But I think you should really include the crazy and funny stories.

Yo Ross, you hear that? You should NOT be leading 5.11 gear routes, dude, you should STILL BE FOLLOWING!! Come down from there right now!

Note that when Jens says "late," he means "after 3 am." -

Jens, the guy at Ballard Muffler treated me right. In fact I'm going back now that the down pipe separated from the catalytic converter over in City of Rocks. That was a long, loud drive home.

Aw c'mon DH give the guy a break. He's a novice and he lives in Louisiana. Easy is a relative term.

wow, I gotta say cc.com is the last place in the world I would have expected anyone to quote Jonathan Edwards. nice. Stephen, just glad we could help.

Rescues take for freakin' ever unless the rescuers happen to be on scene when the accident happens, and even then.... Brook, the guy Saturday took a fall onto his hip, was moving around, completely coherent, said the pain was localized in his lower outside hip. His feeling was that he might have had a small femur fracture, but we're not talking about a full-on break. We did stabilize his leg as much as possible with a foam pad out of the pack his belayer was carrying before rapping ensued. He rapped under his own power. Don't know what the outcome was exactly though, since he and his partner drove off in their car to the medical clinic.

Looks beyootiful. Nice job! Now I *really* wish I'd gone in there on Sunday.
-
That was probably us. Yes, we got out fine (thanks for asking), although it took a while with only one headlamp. Since we started from the parking lot at 5pm, we only got what we asked for though. Fun times.

Was this accident Saturday or Sunday? A guy fell on R&D Saturday and was evacuated by climbers present, loaded into his own car, and driven away to the medical clinic by his wife, but I never saw or heard any ambulances and I don't think anyone called for one.

AlpineK, halfway up the slope, after some time of skinning along in peaceful silence: “This is BULLSHIT!” hehe. Rat also makes the best breakfast in Leavenworth, btw. Yum. Super fun. I made up for being the only person not to get buried in snow by falling down three times as much as Rolf and Kurt combined. Thanks guys for a great day with no death or dismemberment.

I dunno, dude, I find the meaningful relationship to be an elusive little sucker.

Doesn't the WSJ have far more important things to do than go to the trouble of scanning college newspapers with a view to finding overwrought letters by 20-year-old girls to snigger at?

From "Climbing African Ice" by Asa Firestone: "Last August I, a college student from Colorado, linked up via the Internet with a 35-year-old adventurer living in Rwanda for some hearty equatorial ice climbing in Kenya....Having never before used the Internet to meet a climbing partner, Africa did not seem like the place to begin. I made sure to purchase a machete before meeting Ken Ford in Nairobi...just in case."

But don't you have to be a Mountie to get access to their library?

Despite my best efforts both on and offline, I've never been able to get the complete list of all the peaks the Ptarmigans climbed on the first Ptarmigan Traverse and which were first ascents, etc. Can anybody help me out? Lowell maybe??? TIA

Positive reinforcement. Not sure if it works, if there is nothing to reinforce. damn, man. Teenagers, like other people, tend to live up or down to expectations. I'm sure it has not escaped your son's notice that his father thinks he is stupid, lazy, and devoid of anything positive to reinforce. No wonder he wants to stay in his room with the door shut. Nobody likes to spend time with people who hold them in contempt.
