  1. Great stuff John. Can your rig day-trip it up there from Concrete? Holy crap, the photogenic peak options just multiplied!
  2. OK, so equinox-to-solstice is “winter” on the calendar, but I’m with Dconlin that it doesn’t make complete sense. Tell me why March 15th is on average more wintry than December 15th? From the standpoint of the shortest days and lowest sunlight, the solstice should center on, not begin winter. Apparently this "cross-quarter” based winter was used in some ancient calendars – any historians or astronomers out there know why it got dropped? Maybe climbers should revive it...

OK, so JB did create some pretty bizarre headlines and quotes over the last decade or so. But give the man credit – back in 60s and 70’s, he and the band pretty much invented funk.
  4. Interesting - ARC tried to interest me in buying some crampons a while back. I can only imagigine the places those crampons had been....it probably would have "blown my mind"!
  5. Oh yes it is. It's three pitches, it's 5.9 and it's scary! Nothing else quite like it. Other one-of-a-kinders: EBGBs, wtih the tricky mantle start and Bearded Cabbage - heel hook or book. Cool stuff.
  6. 5.9 was the first thing that popped in my head too - Touch n Go?
  7. Yeah, took a couple of nice sliders off this one until I figured out the 5.9 A1 sequence.
  8. Chris, you're welcome to borrow my copy for a while.
  9. If you're looking for long term climate summaries, this site ought to give you plenty to work through: http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/summary/climsmwa.html Glacier, Newhalem and Baker Dam stations are closest to the areas you mentioned, though obviously not really indicative of 'mountain' conditions. You might be able to do a little digging to get archived data from the RAWS or SNOTEL stations. Lots of historical data are out there on CDs, old newspapers, etc., depending on how hard you want to dig.
  10. Baker-Snoqualmie web site has lots of post-storm updates - http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/conditions/trail_conditions.shtml

  12. How bout those slabs on the SOUTH side of Ruth Creek, probably about mile or two toward Hannegan Pass?
  13. clever, but how did she manage to place gear?

  15. Sounds good Al - PM sent. Winter options are a bit different here than Vegas, but there's plenty to do if you're flexible.
  16. Chains were solid last month – thanks Mtnfreak! I suspect this is because most are working from the Nelson-Potterfield Select book that came out before the bolted pitches up top were either there or much known of. Very worthwhile though, I agree. Rapping from the ridge crest anchor, we had a heck of a time getting far enough (skiers) left to reach Safe Sex. How is that done, Matt?
  17. I hear the Chaelan lakeshore trail can be nice that time of year. Check out the yellow Manning-Spring 100 Hikes book.
  18. Have to bail for tomorrow. Sorry.
  19. E. Face Lexington maybe if not too cold? I'll call this evening, Hal.
  20. If you're still interested in tomorrow, send me a pm, and we'll go from there. Curt

  22. Good catch. Photo #3 = Three Fingers from the north? Is the NE Butt the one behind the tree or in the center? Looks pretty cool.
  23. Matier NW face is a good call. The other access is via Keith's hut in Cerise Creek. Also some glacier travel required, but no slide alder. You could probably do it in a long day with some headlamp hiking.
