The hike to 3:00 Rock is about 11 miles RT. Road bed appears intact for a higher clearance vehicle with some effort and chainsaw action just as bradeleneis mentioned. The continuation to Green Giant looked rather covered in windfall, and the Blueberry Hill spur may have lots of new debris under the 23rd Psalm drainage where it crosses the road (viewed from across the valley). Interestingly, Clear Creek has a big log jam I've never seen before, just to the west of the Witch Dr wall approach spur. All in all- not too bad for the record snowfalls- MH

Trip: Darrington - Cornucopia, The Kone, Broad Daylight Date: 5/24/2008 Trip Report: Friend James and I decided to take a couple mtn bikes up the Clear Creek 2060 road to see conditions and hopefully prove the forecasters wrong by climbing warm sunny granite. The initial slide path near Frog Lake: After many variations of throwing, dragging, and kicking of bikes over downed trees, we decided to ditch the wheels and hoof it from Asbestos Creek. Soon we were able to view Exfoliation Dome in the morning sunlight- what a sight- Easy road hiking was quickly replaced by up to several feet of slush A real treat in my lite mesh trail runners Near the culvert at 8 Mile creek: The trail that starts in an old roadbed has hundreds of blow downs carefully laid in a manner to cause much gnashing of teeth. The lower section will need quite a bit of work to restore. Billy Bob the Dog was pleased to end the torture at the base of 3:00 Rock: We climbed Cornucopia, The Kone, and Til Broad Daylight- 8 pitches in all- 75 degree sunny all day! Looks like the avy path will melt out in a few weeks, anyone up for a chainsaw party? MH

Went up to check status of 2060 Clear Creek road, that which approaches 3:00 Rock, Green Giant Buttress, and Exfoliation Dome. About a mile in at what is typically a very small avy trough, some 25 foot deep of deposited snow and debris covered approximately 250 feet of road. Considering that this is usually one of the minor chutes, I would guess that the other 3 or 4 slide paths you encounter in the remaining miles will be of significant volume and potential damage to the road bed. Unsure what this means for access to the area this summer and beyond, but I thought I would update the report....

Took the kids bike riding yesterday and found 2060 Clear Creek road still snowed in at about a mile in. Further up the Mtn Loop- FS49 has had a significant slump and damage 1/4 mi before N Fork Sauk Falls. Mtn Loop still snowed in after Bedal bridge. Oh well- it was still good to see the woods after a week of being MH

Going up on Sunday for a look at Clear Creek 2060 Road and Mountain Loop towards Bedal- anyone been up there recently? Conditions update other than 700 feet of snow on the road? Thanks, M. Hanna

Hey all- Anyone here able to recommend a Seattle/northend foot dr specializing in distance running injury prevention and orthotics? The wife is crazy that way, finishing her first marathon last week... MH

I have been in contact with FixeUSA re this about a year ago, they apparently accidentally powdercoated their non-stainless version of what we usually see around here. The rep seemed willing to exchange these on a 1 for 1 basis if returned to them. I have replaced a couple sets on Blueberry Hill since. They appear to corrode quickly when the powdercoat wears through, as they do not have any galvanized coating. Mark Hanna

I would like to say that only once did I get some harrassing by one overly vocal fellow. Many folks told me on the way out on several occasions that they enjoyed watching our progress through the day. That being said, weekdays are the best up there. I do think the Tower is a better route all things considered. MH

Turn_One and myself climbed Centerstage on Sunday as well- Hi Mike and TeleRoss Fortunately, I happen to love slab climbing, so the upper pitches of this outing were very much fun and quite recommended if you are into that sort of thing. Great to see the effort of doing both Roan and Salish in a day . Did you rap CS or walk off? MH -
I concur Sir Matt- Quite fun it is Have fun up there- I wish I were able to attend this year's "Festival of Civility", but alas... MH

[TR] Red Rocks sort of - can you guess 6/4/2007
hanman replied to shapp's topic in The rest of the US and International.
Firstly, I think it's important to state that I have never drunk the chloroform, or invited mere acquaintances to perform unmentionable acts upon the kin of my folk or others. Born and bred in the Spokaloo of Washinton, I must maintain the sanctitty of that which shall not be spokane. It cannot be overstated however; that in the course of our trip to the sandy sun stone of the Vegas, a whirlwind of folklore and debauchery emanated from the Shappster's mouth organ. Normally, I would consider this unlikely form of communication a simple blight on my otherwise pure self. This time however, it was clear that Shappy had a story to tell... However- the hot creek in BumFuK NV was great, Inti Watana was cold and snowy, VOF has great camping and hand cracks in places, and I'm certainly going back as soon as possible, given the infinite choices for dinner buffet available at the local casino. Praise the lord and amen. Reverend Hanman -
Is it worthy? Thinking of heading up there this w/e for some obscurity. Pure Folly? Pure Joy? Somewhere in the betwixt? MH

[TR] Darrington - Total Soul, Westward Ho 5/17/2007
hanman replied to tvashtarkatena's topic in North Cascades
Heres a link for the ss bolts on Westward Ho, Dark Rythm, Rainman, Total Soul etc http://www.powers.com/pdfs/mechanical/07424.pdf At this point, I think hammering the studs back into the hole may potentially produce a stud that spins. As long as the minimum embedment is intact, just a lite snug down with a 9/16" wrench is probably a good idea. Practice with a torque wrench before doing this- or the bolt can be overtorqued and damaged. Or- send me a PM of loose nuts/anchor damage and I'll put it on the to do list- I get up there many times throughout the year. M. Hanna -
