I think we need some DTown stoke-

The Exfo Dome descent down Westward Ho is very straightforward now. 30 M raps off good anchors have replaced the tree tat cedar jungle adventure. Once at the head of Westward Ho, the raps are long and straight, depositing you at the base of the west buttress MH

6 or so pitches at Peshastin dodging raindrops- better than a kick to the head-

Is there a nice layback flake pitch in the center of a big open book between the 2 photos?? MH

How in the hell did you find out I live in Oso, WA?
-
No, not yet. But it looks like the FS will be looking at the next damaged area with a repair in mind. Worst case we might need to walk the road for 1.5 miles to get to the 3:00 trailhead
-
2060 temporary bypass in place- blocked by rocks right now, but it looks as though it may open for public use soon-Looks like they were able to save the original culvert Go FS!

There's a big resident one I've seen a couple times up at Spring Mtn near the ravine before the parking spot. Pretty amazing animal-

I'll have to look on my home desktop- most likely. I'll post if found MH

[TR] Super Choss 2011 - Numerous 4/10/2011
hanman replied to hanman's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
Do note that the word TICK is cleverly captured within the namesake. Several (8 or 9) were removed from doggies after the adventure. Luckily I try to keep my blood alcohol level sustained to a point where the ticks just avoid me -
Here's some mank from Shot in the Dark, a Duane Constanino Darrington testpiece from the 80's on 3:00 Rock. The upper belay/rap station consisted of two 1/4" aluminum rivets banged thru some 1" webbing.Unreal! The route has 3/8 bolts and SS hangers now, but I still haven't sucked it up for a send. The SMC hanger and stud were the only thing keeping you of the ground on the first big runout (~30 feet). The crack in the hanger developed when bolt was yanked. These steel SMC hangers sucked

[TR] Super Choss 2011 - Numerous 4/10/2011

It's worth noting that there is another climb up there I put up in ~2002. It's located on the slabs beside and below the Chumstick facing south. Rap off the 2nd ponderosa pine to the west of the standard route. 45 meter pebble pinching cobble stomping .10a. Not bad if yer up there anyway. A bit sandy just at the top, but quite fun. 9 clips MH -
Trip: Super Choss 2011 - Numerous Date: 4/10/2011 Trip Report: I've had it- too much rain. Escaped to Mission Creek and Chumstick Snag for some sandy, chossy but reasonably dry adventure with Reilly 81. Even brought the dogs... Heads up on a couple points: I think it's nice to check in with the FS easment landowner at Chumstick (Marty), so as not to get blocked in, and unfortunately, the big rusty block under the trade route belay station is loose and likely not long for this world. It is avoidable however. Gear Notes: Nerves of steel, feet of C4 rubber, chicken wing arms, Vitamin D for sunlight deficiency, push broom Approach Notes: Mission Creek Road up near Cashmere, Spromberg canyon Road off the Plain Hwy

Good news race fans- Mr. Mitchell (FS Roads Manager)just updated me on the Clear Creek 2060 road. They are currently working (pending snow conditions) on a temporary bypass at the first wash in an effort to reach the big damage at mile 4.1. This temporary bypass may or may not be passable by public use standards, but I think this shows they are willing to at least consider a full repair. Thanks to all who indicated support for this continued access, and to the FS crews and personnel involved!! M.Hanna

I hope to get over there this spring to install some fresh hardware and scrub some of the boat classics. Last fall went to Orange Wall- great rock and camping! MH

Email sent- Thanks Shappoopy!!

You might want to try a small brake rack. I have one by Kong that is 4 bars, about 8" long, controls heat well, and is easy to lock off. CMC and Liberty Mtn may stock. http://storrick.cnc.net/VerticalDevicesPage/Rappel/URackPages/URack395.html MH

Whoa there Mark- Jeebus H Cornswaggle- Gotzta keep it on the road. That's a big truck to be throwing around. Hope the damage was minimal? Heavy door too, even when upright Great looking route, glad you are alright MH

I spoke with Jim Mitchell at the Sedro Wooley FS office. He is the roads manager for the north district. He was very helpful and took quite a bit of time to explain the issue at hand. Essentially, there are two flood events (one in December, and the recent MLK event) that are open to Federal submittal for flood subsidy $$. The December flood has been declared a state emergency by the Governor, and he felt that the MLK event would also be declared in time. The timeline for this type of funding approval for flood repairs may be up to 2 years. If the FS tried to repair under their current budget rather than flood subsidy, this ONE slide would amount to roughly 30% of their operating budget. The wash in the above photos is expected to cost 30K$ on the low end. Further up the road there is another trough which is reported to be wider and deeper. As expected, their repair budgets are non existent, and this winter's toll includes many large similar problems.Jim did say that he was very aware of the Clear Creek/DTown user group from the 04 letter campaign, and that they understood the importance of continued access. I did let him know that the interest is high, and that we (climbers) would offer to assist in any appropriate volunteer effort that would help to defray the substantial cost expected. Guess we'll have to see what shakes out... Honda Trail 90 repair program to commence this w/e MH

I like the thought, but generally have never seen more than 6 or so cars at 3:00 rock trailhead, and way less at any other of the numerous crags... Not exactly overrun As the fool with a chainsaw cutting sprung alders for miles, I think a fix and ongoing maintenance would be a big help as it has been in previous years. Take a walk up past Exfo Dome. In 2001 I rode my mountain bike to Deer Creek Pass. It is now nearly impassable. That's what lies ahead if the road is closed. Affected crag areas (for those not knowing)are Green Giant Buttress, Chrome Dome, Wawetkin Dome, The Comb, 3:00 Rock, Exfoliation Dome and Blueberry Hill, Baloney Dome, and 8 mile Trail. Overall, hundreds of wonderful climbs I'll call the FS to get some contacts MH
