  1. For something totally new, I think I'll get ona plane and fly back to the PNW (to stay!!!!! or atleast until my next trip on Tuesday ) But I am planning on collecting ticks on Dog mountain on Sunday.
  2. that is just so wrong
  3. Is this your favorite article?
  4. Jim Kings. As in salmon. Yeah I know it ain't climbing but its a blast . You maay end up bobbing around in a boat but they are fun to catch. Actually I have hiked right out of town up Gold Creek and climbed Mt. Juneau (a wet slog up a alpine meadow/stream), or kept going up to the icefields. If you really want a ski tour at that time of the year, you are looking at a helicopter trip to ferry you in and out. There is ice climbing in the crevasses too. Sounds like a fun time.
  5. I had a dude in PDX contact me after this story. He had video of a golden eagle that from the perspective looked larger than mule deer. It looked like the eagle was trying to pick off the deer for a snack
  6. You are correct. It was Paul and he is one of the most influential by far. His climbing career was ground breaking and he was very infuential in guiding when he and Exum founded Exum Guides. He was also very influential in outdoor education in founding NOLS. Paul Charlie Houston should be mentioned in this breath (pun intended) for his leadership in furthering American climbing and high altitude physiology. Pete Schoening had a major impact on American climbing for saving 5 leading US climbers (6 if you count the already seriously ill Gilkey) with single hip/ice ax belay.
  7. I'll bet you can't eat anything more than a short stack.
  8. This is so yesterday's news.
  9. don't forget National Bohemian Premium, Naragansett Portneer, Carling Black Label, Piels and a bunch of other old favorites
  10. Avoid this beer at all costs!!!!!!!!!! I think it is the water that runs off the slag heaps in Pittsburg.
  11. You are a nasty man!!!

    Word of the day!

Wow, my dad has been using that term correctly for all these year.
  13. I love it when some hard bodied climber parks their F350 monster pickup in the entrance of the daylodge at midnight so they can unload their frigging climbing packs. I mean they are going to drag those things to the top of the mountain and they can't carry them another 100 feet? WTF, you lazy bastards
  14. I'll bet the look the same going in as coming out
  15. this is the NPS game that they play during election years. No politician out there will vote to cut funding to parks, despite the fact that the park system gets 2 or 3 times as much money per acre when compared to the National Forest System, Bureau of Land Management or National Wildlife Refuge System. DOI and OMB are in on this too.
  16. the ringing in my ears
  17. clearcut
  18. ENTJ
  19. Sounds like an interesting trip. He's got all the latest electronic gadgets. I guess the IPAQ is so he doesn't miss any important meetings or lunch dates with polar bears. Good luck Ben
  20. I know CBS will correct me if this is wrong, but its my understanding that urine is a sterile bodily fluid. So long as you don't have a bladder or urinary tract infection.
  21. Oh well, we got plenty more to send over. Mother Nature has ways of enforcing her rules, "Stay on your own continent!"

    hamster coat

I wonder when Patagonia will find a renewable and humane way to add a hampster lined softshell to its fashionable mountaineering line of clothing?
  23. There are pro's and con's to the extension. Number one pro in my mind is it is easy to see the set up and it keeps coats, slings, clothes and other shit from getting sucked into the rap device. The concern I would have about a shoulder length sling is that puts the ATC/whatever out of your reach if something did go wrong. You wouldn't be able to reach to clear it or pass a knot or do whatever else you needed to do. I use an autoblock occasionally especially if I know it is going to be a free rappel. Save the chains clip a locker or two through the chains and rap off of it. I ALWAYS use my personal protection as a backup when I am testing the system. Its the first thing on and the last thing off as I go over the edge.
  24. its a great knot for shortening your tent guy lines in boy scout summer camp, I think I got extra credit for throwing it in the mix. But I got the most points for tying up a whole Girl Scout Troop with bowlines.
  25. sorry Timm@y, but the West Village shitters stink like something died in there, worse than Meadows or T-Line. I saw a funny one today at work, a guy in a suit comes in a flips his tie over his shoulder before using the urinal.... WTF... is the tie too short? Is his manhood too short... is he too short and his tie too long, Discuss
