  1. So CBS, you're a scientist. What if I had just ripped the bugger out of my arm with tweezers, leaving the head in. How much of a problem would I realistically expect to have?
  2. Sounds like my Tele-skiing friends that liked to ride around in my '69 VW microbus.
  3. While heading to Mt Adams last week, I was savagely attacked by a tick, and woke up with the tick deeply embedded in my arm. Since it was an Oregon Tick, I immediatly tried to remove it by force, but to no avail. Smearing it with vasoline only allowed it to enter deeper. So I stopped by the doc to ask him to pluck it out for me. After much fiddling around, he said, Voila, the tick has been removed. I thanked him then looked at my arm, and there were three stitches in it as if a snafflehound had been embedded in my arm!!! Any one else have this happen, and are there any good old climbers tales on how to remove the dreaded Oregon Tick? Serious posters only need to reply.

  9. I don't know. I logged on a few days ago before going to Mt Adams, and it worked fine, and I clicked on your link and it opened rather quickley. Maybe you could try starting with www.fs.fed.us then linking onto the regional forests you want. Maybe a computer wiz has a suggestion.
  10. mousetraps annoy me
  11. It works fine for me. Maybe because of your political affiliation your computor has been banned.
  12. Yes, I was there the end of March and drove right to the trailhhead snowfree. The snow starts at the trailhead parking lot and I skinned up right from truck.
  13. I was just at that road today, and you can drive about a couple of miles past the two switchbacks on 8040 road. Lots of trees came down, but they have all been cut away leaving the road open. Right at the end they are taking haz trees down now. I parked and walked in a couple miles following someones ski tracks. Road was completely snow covered and a snowmobile would work,, and there are lots of snowmobile tracks there. I gave up on the loose punching through snow. Forgot my skiis. What a wasted trip. Next time...
  14. I was up there late March, and the road was bare and dry, with the snow starting right at the trailhead parking lot. Great access skinning up an old roadway until you get on top. I left my skins on for the ski down as it was a bit steep and icy and fast.

  24. ok so I just got back from the Tri-Cities for a meeting this week. Driving the long distances I either got hungry, or just bored from the lack of mtn scenery. So I looked for a place to eat, and voila, there is a gas station.. Gas up, grap a bite, and off I go again. What kind of shit am I eating??? pocket pizza, fried chicken, microwaved cheeeeze burger, shrinkwrapped sandwich of undetermend date and origin. Chips, deep fried snacks, salt, blah blah blah. Why do people think all food should be deep fried? I eat really good at home, but on the road, not only do I eat bad, but it is nearly impossible to find good food on the road. What do you experienced travelers do? There must be some good advice on this site.
