gee thanks scotty. if you call me minxie a again i'm going to have to clip carabiners to yer nutz though but for the record, i don't think that was the point of the PM. i think the idea is that avatar pics like might turn away some of the milder female types.

i don't want to ban anybody's anything. i was just opening up some discussion. similar to what icegirl was doing with the suggestion of women's forum.

i'm either the best or the very worst person to open up this topic but here it goes. Hey, I was thinking: If we are trying to make the site more friendly and to welcome women, should we maybe talk about avatars like scott_harpell's ? I don't know who he is, so I have nothing against him personally, but that avatar is horrible. Lummox's was pretty bad, but Scott's is friggen irritating to no end. Do other women find this offensive? this is the text from a PM i received today. i think it's a pretty interesting thought. i'm pretty thick skinned about stuff like this so i hadn't even noticed scott's avatar. however, i can see why a fair number of women would be annoyed with it. i'm not sure it's a problem since the girl in scott's avatar pic is dressed. maybe it's just that an animated avatar is annoying? anybody want to comment. i'd be happy to hear from people on this via PM if you don't want to post publicly.

    REI Sucks

it seems that a couple times a year, i am forced into rei b/c my local shops don't have in stock what i want. this time it was new plastics. my other half and i trot off to rei w/last year's dividend in hand and oru 20% off coupons. we spend 30 min waiting for help in the boot department. it was saturday, it was busy. we're passed over countless times for other customers; 3X a sales person said they were sending someone to help only to have that person help someone standing closer to the backroom entrance; finally, i was admonished by another sales guy "that he was busy and i'd just have to wait my turn" we left shoes. grabbed a few other items only to get to the register and be told that our 20% off didn't apply to just about anything we were buying. nifty. the 10% dividend is nice and it adds up. however, it seems like you can negotiate a little at some of the local stores and still end up w/your 10% off. my local shop really treats us right and the prices are definitely comparable.
  6. sounds perfect for me! i agree about the weather thing. i'd rather do it here in WA too but the weather is too dicey here for advanced planning. some industrious broke climber could make a fortune offering babysitting services at the crag
  7. i second what rumr said! there'll be enough kids running around to keep yours busy. it'll probably be easier than being at home!
  8. hey didn't my post specifically mention not crossing over the spring ski in???
  9. purebred dog rescue is great. both of my dogs were rescue dogs. they do have pretty rigid standards for who can adopt but you know the dog will go to a good home. one of my rescue dogs is weim he's a pretty dumb but good natured dog too. tell your friend not to feel too badly. there are far worse reasons for getting rid of a dog than recognizing you're not the one to give it the kind of home he needs. we got our weim b/c he was the wrong color and a breeder was going to put him to sleep.
  10. yay!!! great idea that time of year i think smith is the best bet for planning around the weather. what about the w/e of 4/17??? that would work alright in my schedule or 4/3 if the spring ski-in isn't that w/e?
  11. any of the other cc.com wankers going to be there?
  12. bug- you fortunately it was mostly rock gear. i think i'm still good for lib ridge still finding what's missing but i don't think anything to significant for rainier is gone. i think i'm going to head into second ascent sometime this week, myself. after all, i do need a few things i do just want to say again, as bas this sucks, the sting has really been taken out by how helpful everyone has been. thanks to the help from some folks on this site i'm going to be able to climb this w/e. to the folks here at cc.com. all of you have offered help in various ways have beer waiting for you.
  13. this is probably the lamest reason not to lower of chains... i hate to do it b/c i always worry if i've tied back in properly!
  14. b/c i am paranoid of rappelling, i have taken to adding one probably unnecessary step to the procedure but it makes me feel better. at the anchors, i will use one sling or daisy chain clipped to the anchor that isn't bearing my weight while i'm cleaning. i clean the anchors, set up my rap, weight the anchor and rope with the longer sling still attached to the anchor. once i've weighted the system, then i'll remove this last piece of personal protection and rap. this isn't always possible, or even necessary. but if i'm feeling at all worried about my rappell i've started doing this.

    Free Martha!

This is total bullshit. Noone makes you feel anything; you choose to feel that way. And badvoodoo, she worked hard to create her wealth. How is that being a bored, rich, waspy housewife? She has tons of energy and drive. Unfortunately, she chose to break the law and has to pay the piper. I think CBS is right; it's pure jealousy. greg-stfu. don't try and add a bunch of psychoanalysis into that comment. blug

i don't like martha b/c she makes it seem like doing all that stuff is simple, easy and takes no time at all. she makes me feel inadequate b/c my table doesn't have a centerpiece, i haven't made some nifty placemats, prepared a 3 course meal each night and my home doesn't have a "decor". she makes it seem like being a domestic goddess is a piece of cake and we should all be doing it...not trouble.
  17. it was stolen from snoq. pass. so the greater seattle area. i'm a total gear whore so i too watch for good used buys. if someone gets a bargain deal on my gear, i'll reimburse them if they return it to me. i would like to add a positive note to this: i've received some very nice and helpful PMs from folks. i really appreciate the help guys! cc.com is a good community and it's nice to be reminded that there are so many nice people out there! southernmtnguide s
  18. fortunately it appears that the shoes and harnesses will be replaces this week or else suicide might be on this weeks "to do" list. the thief was kind enough to leave me a chalk bag. thanks buddy! we've located 6 draws and a couple of reversos in the gear room. i still have few slings and biners so i don't think i'll need to be talked off the ledge but it was close for a couple hours

  24. i would just like to point out that on occasion, i have received helpful PMs and posts from the guys on this site on female related things. Shockingly, a lot of the guys who post here have wives and/or g/f who climb. it may be second hand info but it's been useful. i'd hate to exclude this sort of input from a women's forum.
