The "American Death Knot" is a true death knot. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. So, Mike, tell us more about that bootied 60 m rope. Are you saying their backup knot caught in a crack or something? You know for sure that it would not have caught had it not been for the backup knot?

I thought that mason bees were a solitary species that reproduce by boring a hole in rotten wood and laying a single egg in each.

The price of oil is going to continue to rise until behavior changes. Adam Smith's invisible hand is going to act upon all the SUV owners. Some will suck it up and pay the higher price of gas, and others will sell off their machines at a poor resale price. Some will drive less, some will park their cars. The oldest SUVs will go to the scrap yard.

To claim that all environmentalists are catastrophists is as absurd as claiming all religious persons believe in imminent armageddon. Whether the ecosystem is teetering on the brink of collapse, or whether it is being degraded in a gradual but relentless fashion, it surely is under assault. Many species have been lost in my lifetime and many more will be lost. When we talk about "ecosystem collapse" there can be multiple meanings. The most extreme meaning I could ascribe to it is that our environment would no longer be able to support any of the humans who live in it. In other words, human extinction. Well, that's pretty absurd, most would agree. But if you change the definition to "no longer able to support all of the humans who live in it", then we have reached that point ready. There are populations in parts of the world who are suffering greatly from environmental degradation.

In the Seattle area there are almost no honey bees. We rely on mason bees, bumble bees and bee flies for pollination of our fruit trees. The latter are not even bees, but they seem to be getting the job done.

Full North Ridge of Stuart was just done this year by Mark Bunker and Colin Haley.

Even if you tie a backup knot in the tails, the EDK is still less prone to hanging up than the double fisherman knot (or any other knot). It is the only knot (that I know of) that rolls away from whatever edge it may be passing over.

Winter climbs with low avalanche potential

Depends on how far you want to drive. I'm assuming you don't want a lot more technical that Mailbox? -
Man, a thread resurrected by it's creator rather than Dru. What a novel concept!

As though it isn't already. Har har har.

You've hit the nail on the head. Oil profits now for GWB campaign contributors.

I remember another thread on this site that mentions the Johannesburg cabin. I believe there was a mining claim on the south flank.

[TR] Beebe Mountain- East Ridge to East Face 3/25/2005

I'd heard that the present pronunciation of Sequim as "skwim" was because of the influx of East Coasters. It's original pronunciation was "see-kwim". Reference:Whistlepunks and Geoducks -
Leg cramps while climbing (hamstrings and quads)
catbirdseat replied to Kraken's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Chelle, it is hard to get potassium, IF YOU DON'T EAT FRUIT. The fact is Americans, in general, don't eat enough fruit. Instead they eat too much processed foods. Climbers tend not to bring fresh fruit on climbs because it is heavy. Not everyone brings dried fruit. The sorts of things many climbers bring on climbs are potassium poor: cheese, crackers, candy bars, etc. So yes, it is easy to get potassium, and YET, many do not get enough. Vitamin supplements that contain potassium cannot, by law, exceed 3% of the RDA. You get more potassium in an average sized apple or bannana than you do in a potassium supplement. -
Okay I'll go with that. Inside pinnacle right side- upper 10's jams only, but 5.10a/b with face holds. A friend and I tried the middle of the North side without horizontal seams for feet. Feels like 5.10a. Without horizontals for feet or hands, >5.10b/c?

Jim and Bob were farmers. They were having coffee one morning at the diner when Jim said to Bob, "you know farming is a fine and dandy way to make a living, but it doesn't do much for the mind. I was thinking of taking some classes down at the community college." "That sounds like a great idea, Jim. Let me know how you like it. I might like to take some courses too", said Bob. Jim goes down to the local community college and speaks with the academic advisor. The man suggests that he take math, english, history and logic. "Logic? What is that all about?", asks Jim. The advisor tells him to go see the professor, which he does. The professor says, "So you want to know what Logic is all about?" "Yes, says Jim. "I don't have the slightest idea if I'll even like your class". "Well, I'll give you an example of logic in action. Do you own a weedeater?" "Why, yes, I do", says Jim. "Just from that simple piece of information, I can deduce the following: because you have a weedeater, you probably have a lawn and because you have a lawn, you probably have a house. And because you have a house, you probably have a wife. "So I can tell that just because you have a weedeater, you are heterosexual. Am I right?" "By God, you are right!", said Jim, totally amazed. He left excited and determined to take the class. When Jim met Bob for coffee, Bob was just as curious as Jim had been about logic. "It's like this", says Jim. "Bob, do you own a weedeater?" "No I don't", he said. "Well", said Jim, "according to logic, that means you must be gay."

Leg cramps while climbing (hamstrings and quads)

Almost any fruit, including dried fruit has lots of potassium, which is a good reason to bring it on climbing trips. It is difficult to get potassium, but ridiculously easy to get plenty of sodium. -
I thought that cam stops also prevent the lobes from inverting.

Like Fairweather, I did the same job shortly after the Nisqually Quake. The degree of nastiness is entirely a function of whether one can sit up or not. Fortunately, I could in this case.

You have got to be out of your cotton-picking mind! The weapon of choice IS important. Go tell the mothers of all those dead children. Get a clue.

Wow. Glad you got out all right, despite stumbling around in the dark. I might have bivied had I been in your shoes, but I realize the the prospect of a chilly bivy can be pretty bleak, if you can keep moving.

For some people, the hardest part of the climb is the getting out of bed part.

Yes, I saw it right after I posted here. This thread has by far the more descriptive Subject Line.
