  5. The Inuit (or was it Athabascans) used to wash their hair in urine. I imagine some still do. They say it works great.
  6. Will that scenario sounds quite plausible. We used to use polysulfide sealants on our boat because it remains pliable for long periods of time. Hopefully, they had removed the PCBs by that time (the 1980's).
  7. What in tarnation is a VSC? I use that acronym for Volatile Sulfur Compound. So you don't want a partner who farts excessively? http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?p=dict&String=exact&Acronym=VSC
  8. I heard a brief story on the radio. I believe the station was KPLU. It said that PCBs were found in the paint used at the Icicle Creek Hatchery. There is concern about leaching of the PCBs into the water and possible uptake by the fish. I have no idea how PCBs would get into the paint. Can anyone find more on this story?
  9. My former boss was one such person. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to call him a loser to his face.
  10. About half the people tie their shoes using a "Granny" bow knot. If you use a true "Square" bow knot, your laces won't come untied as easily, even if they are round.
  11. Will and Joseph, are we both talking about the new Wallnuts? Forget the old as they are not available. What is it about them that makes them complimentary to the BD (=Smiley)?
  12. and how often do you even use the sideways position? in 12 yrs it has never been an issue In flared and incipient cracks, such as water runnells, BD's and Smileys, in fact all nuts except WC can work in this mode where nothing else will (except for perhaps small tricams). I'd never buy the WC for this reason.
  13. It's "Pay the Piper", but "Pauper" is a great substitution, I'll have to grant you that.
  14. You can't forget mattp's post about how the slow party has every bit as much right to be on the climb, etc., etc. Dru, were they really on their first ever multipitch climb? Jeeze, what a choice!
  15. Climbing is never quite as exciting as when you were first starting out, or is it?
  16. Database server crashed and site was restored from a 24 hour old backup tape.
  17. Think of the invaluable spray that was lost. Oh, the humanity!
  18. Listen to Griz. You can try steaming the pages apart by suspending the book over a pot of boiling water. Once the pages are unstuck, get a roll of paper towels and put a towel between each and every page and put the book in a warm place to dry.
  19. Looking at roadless areas purely as an economic issue we lose. John Q. Public loses money on the construction of the roads. Then human motorized access results in more human caused forest fires. We lose money spent fighting fires we wouldn't otherwise have had to fight. I find it comical when they argue that cutting trees reduces fire danger. Fully half of all forest fires are caused by man.
  20. Aren't you glad there wasn't a snowboardER attached?
  21. I'll sell you one for $20.
  22. Take the main road south from I-90 and look for a large brick building that says "George" on it. The store opens at 9 am, if I recall correctly. The owners are nice, friendly people.
  23. In my opinion the traverse was way hard and everything else, including the finger crack was easy. I must have been having brain fade or something on the traverse. The traverse felt like 5.10+. The last moves to the belay on that pitch are an honest 5.9.

    Trundling!

Never underestimate the power that results when potential energy is converted into kinetic energy!
  25. Garth told me that at Gritscone, the bolts were placed with very little thread above the nut, making it very difficult to theft-proof the hangers. If it happens again, the bolts will be replaced with longer ones. Almost everyone I've spoken with agrees. The thing to do is to e-mail the guidebook author and tell him what you think they ought to be (Garth at info@northbendrock.com). I'm sure he'll be coming out with a revised edition at some time in the future. Perhaps he might even publish an addendum online that could be printed out for free. I'll bet he would.
