  1. Indeed. Who would have thought that the humble potato chip could influence the course of evolution? We need to come up with a name for fry-induced selection.
  2. One thing that can be said of bright colors is that they fade quickly and can be used as a gauge of the age.
  3. You don't want to see all those beanie-wearing, pad toting types getting forced into the hills do you?
  4. The one paragraph explanation: It appears that amino acids, especially asparagine, reacts with glucose in the starch under high heat to product acrylamide, which is in turn metabolized by the body to glycidamide. Glycidamide reacts with DNA causing mutations, which lead to tumors.
  5. It's mainly the very high temperatures that are responsible. Tortilla chips tend to have less than fries or potato chips. 6. Anal bleaching must be tough on a student's budget.
  7. Acrylamide- don't laugh. "Every potato chip product tested contains between 39 and 910 times more acrylamide than the Prop 65 warning threshold currently allows." How Potato Chips Stack Up Do I eat potato chips? Yes, but infrequently. I prefer tortilla chips.
  8. Chris, you were the fourth poster. It was your duty to blame Bush.
  9. I wonder if they still had that characteristic rosy complexion?
  10. Carbon monoxide. Yikes.
  11. Smith has lots of great face climbing.
  12. What is this logo anyway?
  13. What I don't quite understand is why they tore out the towers on the original bridge instead of reusing them. The problem with "Galloping Gurdy" was that its bluff sides caught the wind and it oscillated harmonically with increasing amplitude until it failed. That wasn't a function of the tower design. Perhaps the towers were damaged or it was not certain whether they were or not?
  14. They were using 50 m of 5 mm cord for their rappels! I can only assume it it was Titan cord.
  15. Cuba sure must get pasted by many a hurricane.
  16. Oh, I stand corrected. I was assuming all along he'd been dropped on his head as a wee lad.
  17. I'm resurrecting this thread because now it's Layton's turn to empty his gol' durn inbox. I typed up a funny story and now it's lost.
  18. Fenderfour gets my vote for the best post of this thread.
  19. We can forgive you missing this event, on account of you've given a whole lot in the past. You are going to miss the ENTIRE fall climbing season? You got one day a week off right?
  20. Here's a serious answer. No, those are the only two free man made outdoor climbing rocks near Issaquah. If you want to know about natural rock, that's another question.
  21. This is where Sisu Suomi, Cavey, and Trask would have, in former times launched into a spirited defense on the freedom to bear arms.

I must say that Peshastin Pinnacles wouldn't have been my first choice for my daughter's first lead. What I mean is that granite is more forgiving.

She's going to make a fine climber AND a good writer too!
  24. Yes. The route is not described in any book that I know of, and I wanted to make a concise route description available. It is a route that can be done by less experienced climbers, but lack of beta puts off many who would otherwise enjoy this route.
