  1. LOL! We have always been at war with Oceania.
  2. Thanks Kellie! This is being discussed on this thread as well. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/983794/gonew/1/SKULL_HOLLOW_SOLD_OUT#UNREAD I don't know if Kitty has that right - that is, if "passing out of federal hands: is accurate if they are in fact only leasing it, not selling it, to private companies. I'm musing if there might possibly be some good come out of this. Say, perhaps actual improvements that might justify the cost of staying there?
  3. http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2010/10/woman_who_went_missing_while_picking_mushrooms_found_early_this_morning.html Sonn Souv, a 93-year-old Newberg woman who went missing Tuesday while mushroom picking in Washington's Gifford Pinchot National Forest, was found alive and well early this morning. When searchers found her, Souv had covered herself with brush and bark to keep warm, Skamania County authorities said. She was found in an area thick with underbrush and timber. She was located about 3/10ths of a mile east of the base of search operations. Souv suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. Souv was reported missing by her family at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. She had been picking mushrooms near the Salt Creek Trailhead on the Forest Service Road 8031. Dave Cox, undersheriff of Skamania County, said Souv, who is originally from Cambodia, is physically disabled hearing impaired. He said she got lost in thick brush and decided to stay put. "She couldn't hear anything," Cox said, adding that Souv did see a search helicopter circling the area. "I'll tell you what -- a hardy gal," Cox said. "We're really thankful we found her." -- The Oregonian
  4. FOR THOSE WHO CARE (I did the full copy/paste thing, not a word below the next period is mine). "The Ochoco National Forest received approval in October 2009 from the Pacific NW Recreation Resource Advisory Committee to begin charging a $5 fee for camping at Skull Hollow Campground near Smith Rock. This was done over significant objection from the climbing community, who are the primary users of the site. The Forest justified the fee as necessary to operate and maintain the campground to standard and provide increased security. Now they are including Skull Hollow in a prospectus for sites to be turned over to a private for-profit concessionaire to operate. Concessionaires will be invited to bid on what they will charge the public, and you can pretty much bet it will be a lot more than $5. The funds will flow to the private firm, with only a small percentage being paid to the Forest as a franchise fee. Often concessionaires offset franchise fees by performing in-kind work, in which case little or no cash flows to the Forest. The process of turning a facility over to concessionaire management is done internally and administratively, with no public notice. No public comment is solicited either on whether to do it or on how much the concessionaire's fees should be. Future increases in fees are approved administratively, with no public notice, comment, or input, and no advisory committee approval required. I thought you would like to be made aware of this impending change. Skull Hollow Campground is, for all practical purposes, about to pass out of federal hands, probably forever. If the local climbing community has any influence with the Forest, use it now or forever hold your peace. Here is the Ochoco's letter: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/passes/documents/Notification%20ltr%2007.15.10.pdf -- Kitty Benzar President Western Slope No-Fee Coalition PO. 5. Schweet! Most exellent TR! Last time or 2 down there, I'm sitting a casino with my bro, they have this thing going whereby half naked girls are dealing the cards, it's pretty good: anyway, there are 2 other dudes at the table that seem familiarish......We're all playing, drinking and bullshitting while the girls successfully stoke and stroke our egos, generally having a great time together, visiting and chatting while we play. I see that one has a Prana shirt on and I go: "Climbers?". The other one looks right at me and goes "Bill"? I'm thinking like "shit, I think this guy is familiar...." Introductions, they are both CC.comers, one of whom I'd climbed with -WallaWalla Kenny. Seen here in the picture I'd taken @ the year before out climbing: The other was Jlaq. They were finished and heading out (well, that was their story) or we probably would have tied in. I'm heading down the end of this month with Ujahn and Adam. Wish I was in better shape. Adam wants to run up Epinephrine and Ujahn and I probably aren't up for the thing this trip.
  6. Hellowwwww Arch! Sorry all, I was looking for the loooong house cat thread. I'll put this here anyway. From: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/39752347/ns/today-today_pets_and_animals/ "A cat in Reno has broken the Guinness world record for world's longest domestic cat. The Reno Gazette-Journal reported that a 5-year-old Maine Coon named Stewie was certified as the new record holder after measuring 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail bone. That's a little more than 4 feet long." If it would start eating it's way through some large Costco sized cat food sacks, we'd have a long and big one.
  7. ..damn...Rob, I forgot the most inportant part. You need to wear a tagiyah or shemagh and say that you represent Saudi Arabia. An Italian restaurant tablecloth will work double duty for this. Say "Abu Akbar" a few times or something like that as you are waving your arms around. Perhaps add a sword for authenticity. Works every time! TODAYS HOT SAUDI NEWZ! Probably they first had a serious heart to heart talk about our mutual hemorrhoid: Iran. Be interesting to be a fly on that wall to see the haggling and bargaining involved. I'd imagine we got something. Bases? Communications? sumpin sumpin.
  8. That's a point I often make as well....with a few spelling changes. BTW, the republican tent is big enough to allow all kinds of whack jobs a large enough umbrella of divergent issues to hang underneath. Yet I just pulled up the GOP platform and I surprised what I read. I think that they tried to be as general as possible so as not to alienate people. Here: http://www.gop.com/index.php/issues/issues/ they don't say a word about getting the rents down either.
  9. You can nodder, place an order with the Air Force for the "Stealthtard". Then pony up the couple of billion dollars (they use to get them for $1,200,000,000 but it's probably gone up, much like groceries and gas). Best if you just walk into the Pentagon and ask them this directly though. They prefer the face to face contact. Talk loudly, use exaggerated hand gestures and repeat yourself often as they don't hear well.
  10. LOL .... don't tell Olvesky (Piton Ron) that this damn ship is available or he'll pick one up and be trying to moor one somewhere in Utah.

    Hey Republifucks!

No question. Have you seen the recent deals that the big 4 banks have worked out? You'll see it coming up on the profit and loss statements soon. Citi just reported. The TARP money that they got from us with no interest got loaned out to overseas banks at interest and the banks are very happy at the transfer of wealth from your pockets to theirs. Once they get the wealth concentrated too much, sadly, it's gonna be a scorched earth thing as the economy tanks. It's one of the reasons I'm a "gun nut" jb, because franky, I trust you and people like you with weapons and the power those weapons represent, sight unseen, more than any power hungry politician or a massive backdealing group of corporations trying to influence the politicians.
  12. The English have a brand new Aircraft Carrier for sale. No kidding. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/8072041/Navy-aircraft-carrier-will-be-sold-after-three-years-and-never-carry-jets.html Nobody's making us buy that. Maybe if we all get together, pool our resources and scrape up the scratch....

    Hey Republifucks!

I have not changed my position on this. It is perhaps the first time you have read past my first 3 words? In fact jb, when I say I want smaller government and lower expenditures, I believe that you read that to be "NO" government and you generally start your response with an insult followed by a full post of an example where gov't has done good. Not the case, never said it, don't believe that no gov't is small gov't or less intrusive gov't. Go back and read up. In fact there is nothing in your last line I disagree with. That Robert Gates can snap his fingers and yoink out 30 billion....that's BILLION dollars 30,000,000,000.00 out of the defense appropriations bill, seems to indicate that unlike Britain, which has chosen to NOT use their newest aircraft carrier to launch any aircraft but to put it directly into permanent mothballs, no one here has looked very hard at slashing anything military and that's the largest place to start. Concerning the loss of American mfg jobs, I personally see it and feel it in my bank account. I've seen bipartisan efforts at free trade agreements going back a long way, certainly Clinton with NAFTA and China agreements is in there with any repub on free trade issues. I don't know what to do about it as I generally have seen many examples over the years wherein free trade benefits all parties. Moving on, as I said earlier, I am happy that President Obama has publicly announced that getting the deficit lower (didn't say balancing anything that I have seen) is becoming an issue. Hopefully the truck gets the brakes put on before it's too late and it goes over the cliff. Regards to all...no matter if you voted republifuck, demofuck or libertarfuck. I've done all in my time as I've posted here previous.
  14. DAVE, Does this mean you're not bringing your blow up intimate sex sheep, the "LUV EWE", that was the hit of the party till it started looking like a glazed donut late in the evening? ...Bastard.

    Hey Republifucks!

Stop with the bullshit tax cuts, cut the g-damn out of control borrowing and spending. Most rational citizens were hoping that we could get that last borrow and spend Republican out of office and finally get the budget under control. Instead - it's like a rabid runaway weasel that's about to flop over dead from overexertion. Stop with the massive borrowing from the Chinese and needless spending. It's not a "republifuck" or a "demofuck" issue, its an American one that's is taking our country down a toilet in a bi-partisan manner. I blame the last asshole more than this one but it doesn't change a fucking thing does it?
  16. LOL Keny Powers, rough stuff! Igor Igor..... [video:youtube] [video:youtube]
  17. How high did you and Shane get this thing? Just curious, I'm not climbing for shit these days. Just got spanked at Smith and Trout Creek this weekend (thought about Jim Anglin) and definatly have no business trying it, probably don't have any business even reading about it:-), just curious. I think I saw one of the Nates at Trout, maybe you need to grab one or both.... get it while the weather is good.
  18. Bring yer shoes to work tomorrow and lets head up after work and get a burn. Leave the chalk at home, this isn't that difficult and if the object is to get pumped, you'll get it even faster with slippery hands. I'll have cams to fondle.
  19. ...or just take a round rat tail file and make the thing flat again. Lifes already too short:-)
  20. AWESOME! Glad to see you lads getting it done! Hey, that stuff if steeper than you pic shows, you got to line the camera up so the trees are vertical and not at an angle to show how steep it is. Like tip it to the left 20 degrees. Something like this. Nice to see folks on that stuff! Righteous, you need to get in gear to get some routes in there before the weather closes it down and it's too cold to put in new routes and Tim puts it in the guidebook. Edited for the Hound!
  21. It just gets confusing when one ages...sorry for misunderstanding. Enjoy your time alone!
  22. WTH? You climbed a pitch with your daughter, then ditched her and ran laps with Tim? Shame shame shame, but congrats on getting in some mileage too:-)
