  1. He doesn't even need to post, I think he has first prize all wrapped up. It's just a matter of 2nd and 3rd now.
  2. ^^ Yes. But he is talking about analog versus digital, not old vs new...
  3. In practice scenarios, I have found it much easier, and faster, to pinpoint the final location with a probe than with the beacon. I used to not even own a probe, but after some practice with probe and beacon, I now carry one at all times. Plus, once you get a hit, you can leave the probe in and dig straight down to it. On the question of length?? I got the 3.2m, it's good for feeling deep layers, and makes for less bending down.
  4. There is a trick for pushing film in auto cameras... You can get stickers that go on the film to trick the camera into thinking it is a different ASA than it really is, and then get the lab to push it. I can't remember where I last saw them, but I know they exist.

I've heard there is a snogurl out there somwhere.
  6. Either you are trying to make a really bad joke, or your are sorely mistaken. There is a tiny problem with some of the newer digital beacons not picking up older analog beacons who's signal frequency has drifted out of spec, but I have never heard of any problem in the direction you speak of. Of course , if it is a really old[/i] analog model, 2.275 (?) frequency, then it won't work with any modern beacon. If you have proof or sources that show otherwise, I would love to read them.
  7. I was thinking of 5 or 6mm with a monster munter, but then I thought that spectra would be a good (but expensive) alternate, because it could be a handy glacier rescue rope for ski touring as well. I don't think I would want to put crevasse rescue kind of loads on 5/6mm perlon.
  8. This is intersting to me, because I have been wondering what to buy as a self evac line for getting off a dead ski lift when I am patrolling. Don't wanna carry around 35m of 7mm if I don't have to.
  9. YUP! (same source)
  10. There is a ton of stuff on this subject at the TechWeenie pages at the FISH Products site. Click > Webbing Strengths and do some scrolling.
  11. From the Yates webpage. (bold mine) And from the Fish Products Tech Weenie page (click webbing strengths and scroll down about 2/3): There used to be some more detailed info on the web, but I can't find it right now. Graphs showing the force over time of systems with and without screamers.
  12. Ever hear of a Monster Munter?? It's very applicable to this discussion.
  13. Most manufacturers offer trigger and sling replacement. Sometimes it takes a while, and costs a litle bit more though. I have repaired triggers on many Metolius cams, and have never seens any that were really "mangled" in any way except for the trigger wires. But if you are worried, it would be better to send them in for an inspection. It would also be really difficult to make a trigger replacement kit for a metolius. Just the way they're put together doesn't really allow for it the way the BD ones do. Even then the BD ones leave you with a snaggy wire at the end, instead of the nice buttonhead, if you use the trigger kits instead having someone (me ) repair it with a swager.
  14. OnSight equipment in Squamish does a beatiful job of replacing webbing on certain cams. They don't want to hear from you though. The best bet is to drop the cams off at Valhalla Pure in Squish. If my memory serves me, they do single stem BD Camalots, WC Friends, and maybe some others. The definetely don't do Metolius, or U-stem Camalots. Between April and December you can also get trigger wires done at the same time.
  15. Damn, I thought getting a locked heel would help me witht the breakable crust days...
  16. Farting?
  17. Murray at Valhalla Pure in Squish (1800 892 9092) might be able to line you up with one if BD has 'em in stock.
  18. That the new hostel though? I think it is a bit nicer these days.
  19. I'm thinking more along these lines right now.
  20. Yes it has changed names. Link to new name.
