Good article on shoveling out a buried victim
snoboy replied to tvashtarkatena's topic in the *freshiezone*
There's a variation on that article in the latest Backcountry magazine. I think shovelling can make the difference between a good and a bad outcome. -
It shows up on page two of the search results, and number 1 result on Google... either way gets you there. I often find myself using Google site search, not just here, but many other sites as well.

jon, I just noticed that we have reached a milestone on the search options. Since cc.com is now over 7 years old... we can no longer search the oldest posts.

Looks like the day I was born... was a powder day! HbrZpJm6zdA

I dropped a cannon ball on my foot when I was little, that lead to the separation of my toenail from my toe.

Taking off Tele bindings & putting on AT bindings
snoboy replied to Blake's topic in the *freshiezone*
Make sure you read everything on Lou Dawson's wildsnow.com. I have replaced G3 Targas with Dynafits and can say that the holes do not interfere. Get the plugs from the shop (often free if you know someone) or use golf tees. -
I have no experience, but friends have told me that the harness is the plabbest thing ever.

Need a new beacon? Need a spare? e-omc has the Ortovox F-1 for only $160!

Did they teach you how to plant your foot firmly in that class??? "Pumpkins" indeed!

I have slept in a Megamid in perhaps the buggiest campsite I have ever experienced. Luckily it was very flat, and we were able to get the edges of the tent right to the gound. It was not bad at all.

Bzzzzzt! Both pulleys in a Z-drag see the same load, 2/3 of the total. It's gonna be better than a biner fer sure, but not as good as a burly rescue pulley - your choice when it comes down to weight. I know I have one in my ski box. The effect of pulley diameter on efficiency is also a function of rope diameter to some extent, AFAIK. So this might be fine in am ultralight spectra glacier rope kinda rig, but not so hot for the fuzzy 11mm out of the Mountaineers gear cache. Ooops! I think I just opened another can of worms!
-
The ultralight pop can stove crowd use them for filler caps, I think!?

I would guess portable electric rigs, easy to move, and supposedly effective...

Just a random thought from somebody with no experience at these tents: It might be worthwhile to get a tent and vestibule if it allows you to choose a smaller tent for most purposes, and then bring the vestibule only when strictly neccesay (ie big gear, lotsa peeps...)

Looks more like Paul Ridge to me than Brohm Ridge.

:pagetop: are even more expensive! Our hill does season long rental deals for the groms... it works out cheaper in the end for the family, and the kids get better gear. It's also convenient as the parents can drop the kid off, and they go get their gear, and go skiing, no crap to lug from the parking lot and back. Of course... if they are racers, then $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

What type of skiing do you like? What's your average DIN? How much coin you got?

I've been happy with STS, or some version of it (like G3) for years. Ascension skins have let me down only a few times, usually when I drop them in the snow or something. I have bought the standard skins in the past, and then a couple of years down the road when the glue starts to weaken, added the tail attachemnets (they are available as kits.) Ditch the bag, and the skin savers, and the paper that they come on - all unnecesary IMO. BD's specific skins are precut for their skis. If you are getting BD skis, then it might be worth the extra $$$ to get the precut skins. Ascension is slightly heavier than Glidelite, otherwise... ??? I find that the skis I buy them for are usually outdated or beat before I need to reglue... that's what you get for being anal about keeping them clean and drying them properly... NOT TOO HOT!

It is amusing though, from the outside...
