If that's the truth, then I think everyone should have to go there! Milton is so#1!!!

For sure something is up here these days! Mattp and Fairweather are having conversations about where to send Fw's daughter to college, trask is weighing in on Gear Critic Forums, I called e-rock a loser in not so many words and he didn't blast me, GregW was agreeing with AlpineK who had just admitted to liberal leanings! And where's the caveman in all this?

Crappy dude! Did they give you new ones? Or reglue them at least? The g3 website still has them, page updated dec 21. I've always stuck (ha!) to Ascension myself. I am almost superstitious about what skins I use. Even when the G3 tail fix system came along, I just put it on my Ascensions.

Off thread topic here, sorry. I have seen that site too, and even played around with some of the tecniques. They kinda work. I found it a lot of work to get not very good results. Kinda impressionistic. Most large photo places have slide scanners these days. You can get impressive results from a real slide scanner... Galen Rowell used to scan some of his work before blowing it up to like 4'x6' or whatever. The crux is that the original is so small the scanner needs super high resolution to do a good job.

To Filter or Not to Filter? That is the question.
snoboy replied to tomcat's topic in Climber's Board
I lived for 5 years in a house where our water was drawn from a "mountain" creek. Untreated. Never had a problem, neither did any of my city friends. Granted that is a small sample. I also drink from creeks mostly. I am more scared melting snow at ski cabins to tell you the truth!!! -
[bold mine] I thought they had been not shipped because they had a problem with this batch of glue... Kinda like Assension did a few years ago. I guess you do need somewhere that knows what they are talking about. Or maybe I am talking out of my

fern set me straight on the best breakfast = mashed potato flakes with cheese, butter, and curry. Add a little extra water. Yummy! And get her Logan Bread recipe too!

CBC radio used to play DT's "A Child's Christmas in Wales" every Christmas. I loved it as a kid, It's funny stuff.

Don't most people use fork in left when using knife, if right handed??? Maybe it's a Canadian thing too??? I (righty) used to wear watch on right when I was sculling, as the left hand passes over the right, and the buckle messes up the back of your hand. It can catch a bowstring too!

Top roped soloing - what's your favorite device?
snoboy replied to Terminal_Gravity's topic in Climber's Board
That is what I usually use. Make sure to clip the biner into the device properly (see Putzl site or instructions), it will keep it from jumping off the rope, and feed easier. If you still want backup, then tie a loose prusik above the ascender. It will be pushed up by the ascender. I don't bother with the chest harness though. -
I think you are right about their intentions JayB, but my issue is more with the diameter, than length. Definetely better a light probe than none at all.
-
It's in RossVegas with me. How far (hrs) is Pickets from Squampton? I think the probes would be maybe OK for one rescue, but not for daily use, cornice poking, pit checking snow depth checking, rescue practice, all that stuff. I haven't tried one out yet either, but am dubious about their ability to get down through debris, especially coastal!
-
Good point on the grip issue, and the long handle. The probes in handles are so-so (thin and flexy) that I have seen. Once again, ask what would you want your rescuer to have.

Metolius TCU's vs. Aliens (small sizes)
snoboy replied to COL._Von_Spanker's topic in The Gear Critic
Uhh, what Greg W said. Sometimes one works and the other don't. Carry both if the route demands that many pieces. If not, take the aliens and leave some draws behind. -
Sounds like someone needs to redesign the buckle then...

I've used the Voile's for years, but I think that others have surpassed them in design. Theoretically, anyway, I haven't used any of the new ones (G3 or SOS, or BCA) Broke one blade, lost one handle... The G3 looks like it might be tougher, but I haven't had the chance to abuse one yet. All avy shovels are a compromise. Light = not strong. Maybe a small hardware store shovel? If you really want something tough that is? edit: added stuff.

Your bio doesn't help me know where you are, but if all else fails Valhall Pure in Squamish BC has them, and doesn't mind shipping. (604) 892 9092

I haven't tried the Crossbow, and don't know anyone who has them either, so I can't say how they compare with the Mira. I bought my Miras on pro deal too, and they are very worth it for the price. Made in Austria, so they aren't Tuas any more. Hagen maybe? Here's a review or two of the Crossbow from the tttips.com. Here is the review that had me anticipating the mounting of my new skis all fall. Just re-reading it, I think I need to do a little detune...

:mouth wide open gaping icon here: I've got 2 out of three on you there dru! Course I didn't lead 'em.
-
My experience: I just got BD Miras, and they rock, but they might be too spendy for you? They don't hold an edge to good on ice at speed, but otherwise Great powder and crud ski, light enough to tour. Things I've heard: Rossi XXX is good for big, fast turns. Mega Bang is same ski, but softer. Lots of friends love the AK Launchers. Skis are spendy, maybe you will find something used?

BD Neutrino and DMM wiregate failure test
snoboy replied to Pencil_Pusher's topic in The Gear Critic
Actually they are dumb. Sorry to rain on your parade, but they have manged to take a good idea (wiregate) and wreck all the good stuff about it. Take one of the DMMs and slap it against your hand, the gate opens coz of the extra weight at the end. Also the funky twist makes it hard to clip... at least compared to a real wiregate. -
If you're trying to meet _their_ needs you probably won't need a raincoat at all...

Well maybe you should, so you can provide us with some useful information, instead of , I went skiing it was fun there was snowmobiles having fun too.
