  2. And people who wear seatbelts need driving lessons? Maybe they just feel better wearing them. What evidence do you have to support that helmets are not a good idea? Is there something wrong with being safer? Why is everyone so grumpy today???
  3. What about Ice Porn, that was a pretty balls-out, mixed/alpine route. I bet they didn't even look at that one.
  4. Uh-oh, I think I can see whre this is going...
  5. Well, technically it works by being soluble in water at one end of the molecule, and soluble in "grease" at the other.
  6. Depends if the baby sitter is part of the Frequent Sprayers program or or not. You did check before you signed up with them, right? It's funny this pic came up, coz I just watched "Empire Records" last night, starring... Liv Tyler. Pretty funny. One of those movies set in a workplace, but no one ever seems to actually work. Hmmm, a few people on here might know more about that.
  7. Like right now, when our weather is coming from central Alberta !
  8. Didn't you read the contest rules? You get bonus points!
  9. I usually run it through a second cycle with no soap. This seems to help. I was told that soap is hydrophyllic, and so you wanna get rid of as much of it as possible. SOme people also do this with their polypro and socks too. I think that's a bit over the top. They should get rid of thier stinky polypro and wear wool. Much cosier. Seriously.
  10. THey are warm and cozy though. Although $120 is a lot to pay for a hat! They (ski lids) apparently aren't that effective over 12mph! That said, I wear mine all the time at the hill. Maybe it will reduce the brain injury...
  11. Took this out of the fitness forum before we get booted out. Bonus points for anyone other than freeclimb9 who can tell us the name of the sister of the one on the right. I think we are awful close to being kicked into spray. Apologies in advance to the original poster...
  12. Don't you need to save money for your car?

    BD Skis

The Miras rock too. I just got some this season, and they are awesome powder, crud skis. Not the best for icy groomers but who wants t ski those anyway. They might not now how to make a tele binding, but they (with the help of Atomic) sure put out some nice skis.
  14. Dude! That's not a six pack, that's a keg! fern: Yeh I did that once, but I didn't have to go anywhere, and it only took me a week. Ugh.
  15. Got one for me? iain, that's awesome! BSOD and all!
  16. tlg - no contest.
  17. Jake - consumer GPS use 4 if they can, 3 is not as good. The "dumbing down" or Selective Availibility was turned off. You are mostly right. cracked - I think that they use better receivers, they probably don't have any mountains blocking sattelites and they probably do a couple of tricks to improve accuracy. One could be averaging, basically taking many fixes, and averaging them. They might also use Differential GPS. This basically consists of a very accurately surveyed point with a receiver that records the difference between where it is (the surveyed position) and where the GPS thinks it is. This can then be aplied to the data from the unknown point, either in real time, or post. These are my guesses. Most importantly, I don't know if either of these tecniques would have a benefit on the quality of an altitude fix. I think there is someone (iain?) on this board who knows a fair amount about GPS, and can probably tell you much better... I thought it was funny a few years ago when I read in a trip report that the group had found the map to be in error, because the GPS showed the height to be a few feet diferrent!
  18. I kinda left the guy alone. I thought he had learnt his lesson, and decided to eat a little pie. Now I see he has learnt something... Quote : "the Selkirks are not in the Canadian Rockies, but both ranges are within the Rocky Mountains." WTF? Go check the thread out, it's actually kind of interesting. (Link in my first post.)
  19. Screw the TR, we need live streaming video for those of us who can't attend. Hook us up Timmy?
  20. And further, if you start at 8AM at 6000', and you are at 9000' by 1PM, you might wanna think about turning around... nad going to the
  21. Unless you can stop the weather from changing, you are always gonna have to reset your altimeter! I find the one in my eTrex summit good. I was on a car once. playing with a fancy aneroid Thommen one. The needle jumped about 5 feet when you opened the window! Pretty sensitive. I still use my altimeter between known points. I will assume you are joking?
