  1. Boomtown in Nelson BC has some old Silvretta 300's in the back. No lock down the heel parts though, so no good for skiing... Look for something like that in your local old gear repository... Chech out the PIKA website and look at the Sastrugi binding. Bet you could rig something yourself... ... ...
  2. Who said I was a guy??? Careful there or I will have to report you to the mod for exposing someone's PMs... Oh, it's you. Uh whatever...
  3. Sorry - had to.

    Aid Climbing 101

You can always pick up a couple of 6 steps later to make a set! "I joked with jk that It doesn't matter if both my aiders are the same colour... I can't tell my left from my right any way" All the more reason to have different colours...

    Aid Climbing 101

Some ideas- Get a 5 step and a six step. Get all different colours. You should be able to put your foot in the bottom step and reach almost to your limit with the top. Then when you have a piece in high, you will be able to get your foot in it easily, and test the piece without getting above your last piece. Some people use 2 aiders, some use 4. Jeez, this is bringing back memories. I haven't aid climbed in a while. I think this summer is going to see me on the rock a bit more than last.

    Aid Climbing 101

Are you out buying them, or is someone giving them to you or what? I ask because there are different kinds... and you might want to try a few before you choose if you are paying full price.
  7. minx, that must be one old chart - there's no espresso on it!
  8. Maybe not quite the same ski...
  9. I would guess it is marketing too. There might not be many 105 lb skiers out there, but I know one at least, and I bet there are a few more hiding out. Those are the people who would most need a different ski.
  10. I'm not an expert either. Note the quailifier "often" in my previous post. I bet there aren't that many 105/5'-0" guyus out there, but I wonder if the She'sPiste would work for someone that little? What guy, especially a little one, is gonna want to ski on a flowery-girly ski??? They only go down to 160? WTF is up with dat? Anyone small tried these skis????
  11. Maybe softer because women are often lighter than guys.

    Aid Climbing 101

SK - I never found a good book on aid climbing. There are so many little trix and stuff, that the best is to have people show you. If you wanna come to squampton, then I could show you some, but I'm not an expert. I bet fern would too. Now where are my aiders??? It's the best excuse to buy new gear!
  13. Don't worry a-gal, you don't need to climb to talk smack! Not around here anyway! Welcome to one of the most engaging sports ever invented. Be safe and most important - have fun. I think the mock lead is a great idea. It is amazing how much more complex the whole deal can seem on the sharp end. Get someone who you trust to check you out. Remember your partner should be someone you can truly trust with you life. Never be afraid, or worse, ashamed to back down and go home. Scare yourself sometimes, but only in good ways. When you know what good fear is you will be on your way to being a safer climber. Climbing can be deadly, but it doesn't have to be. Screwing up can get you killed. At the same time it can be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. It can take you to amazing places where most people will never go, and it will hook you up with some of the coolest people on the planet. Above all it is what you make of it.
  14. Distel- If you read closer I think you will see that they are not talking about avy beacons, but rather EPIRBS or something like that.

    WTF are you talking about??????????
  16. Hsy DFA, maybe if you had a skier in your avatarpic you could be as good as us.
  17. Sad but true, now 22 under. Level with gregm, pulling ahead of DFA.
  18. Like I said, you love what you got. I have gotten _1_ Wallnut stuck ever. It's on Lion's Way in the Bugs if anyone wants it.
  19. I've always climbed with wallnuts. I supplement with met curveswhen I want more than one set. I think whatever nuts you own will be your faves. Just stay away from anything really weird. You get used to the peculiarities of each shape. Cams- buy the best. Don't bother with hexes unless you are broke or trying to save weight (ie. alpine). Best to me eqauls small aliens, midsize metolious, and large camalots. I think large cams are the place to save money if you need to. There really isn't much diff in a big camalot and a big forged friend. When you are trying to dink in a little placement you will be blessing the guy who invented aliens/tcus though. YMMV. Oh yeah, one more thing. BUY SETS. Don't mix and match!

  21. No S%$t it's got technical climbing!
  22. I got the ball on top of the border of the one with the long z, hole 8 I think. I don't curse it anymore. iain -->>
  23. Necro, I think your point is lost because it seems these guys were working on a PRACTICE rescue! Well maybe your point is valid actually, since the "climbing injury" wasn't that severe...

    Yosemite ratings?

My point is that they feel like mid 10 slabs, not like mid 10 smiff routes! Duh!
  25. Ahh, so you finally caught up to me! I've got the screen shot for proof.
