Mt. Ellinor to Mt. Washington Traverse??
eternalX replied to wind_river51's topic in Olympic Peninsula
Damn you're pretty nice Matt. Scanning in pictures and whatnot. -
Where's the best place to go to spend the night at altitude on a weekend? Has to be a one day hike with no glacier travel. I was thinking of doing The South Spur of Adams. camp at 9400 with a summit at just over 12. Will it be crazy busy over the weekend? Can you get away with not having crampons (i have em, friend doesn't)? The other thight is Camp Muir, but I'm guessing that'll be packed. Also, do either of these require a 4 season tent? I have a 3 seasen sierra designs clip light. Any thoughts? Thanks

That's the difference between me and a liberal. I think I should actually pay for what I use whereas a liberal thinks that everybody but me should pay for what I use.

I got a ticket back in June and just called them to complain about the whole system. The girl I talked to was named Ann and was really friendly about the whole thing. She agreed that it's a pain if you don't realize you had to pay and then can't do it at a trailhead and said she'd cancel the ticket if i'd buy a $30 annual pass. That seems pretty reasonable to me (I should have one anyway) and so I just bought the pass online here . Now I just have to fax her a copy

hrm. After all three pages of discussion, I vote for minx getting back to talking about tying her coconuts together.

The Genius Within - Discovering the Intelligence of Every Living Thing for the second time. GREAT book. Everyone should read it. Displays how our view of intelligence is skewed how your immune system and brain works and how genes are not the origin of life, but merely documentation. Just finished Eric Schlosser's (Fast Food Nation) last book, Reefer Madness which details 3 major black markets in the US. Those being porn, pot, and migrant labor. Good book, but like FFN, is a bit short on facts and a bit heavy on subjective material. READ THE GENIUS WITHIN

More info would be helpful. Are you looking at buying a jacket? What are you going to use it for? During this time of year i'm not sure what you need gore-tex for at all. There was an OK article on slate the other day talking about gore-tex and about how much of it is just marketing. That new EVENT stuff is suppose to be better.

nice! When i went i wore running shoes for all the hiking except on summit day. Even then, you probably could still where approach shoes (my buddy did without issue - i don't actually own any). Plastic boots seems like massive overkill. The thing that killed my feet was the last hour of the glacier when i decided to take off my gaiters My feet got soaked and there ended the happiness. gaiters are good

I totally agree. I wonder how much they are paying those lawyers to come up with a law. Did they completely forget about that whole "freedom of religion" thing?

d00d. you forgot Super Troopers! Who wants a mustache ride?

Tthat sounds good, but stay away from "Sweet Potato Mush"

that's retarded. if Life is what we were concerned with, we'd put somebody in jail everytime they scratched some living skin off themselves.

No kidding. If you figure that trick out you'll be a millionaire....or at least eating lunch at the millionaire's club...

when I try to rotate a pic it just fucks it up. It never actually rotates (even though it says Image Rotated!). computers are neat, except when they aren't.

Bad spellers suck. So do people that can't get to, two, and too correct (though I have to admit I always fuck up then and than). Punctuation is a bit different on a message board though. You're trying to convey pauses and breaks, especially when being sarcastic. That's hard to do when following all the rules.

You got a job? Slacker. Naw really, Congrats and cheers!

The United States had offered a $25 million bounty for Saddam and $15 million for each of his sons. --guess that'll save the government some money.

no gaitors?

No bikes in the National Park. Plus, there are a lot of notches cut out of the trail for streams to run through. I'm sure you could jump most of them, but I would fear for the one you don't see until it's too late.

Could've sworn i posted yesterday, but i don't see it here. Computer smart. Eternal dumb. Anyway. I was on the trip with AlpinFox and he already posted the details in a previous thread. Basically the weather was great, the trail was very clear with steps kicked all the way to the top. It was pretty slushy when we went though and it seems like the stability of snow bridges is rapidly decreassing.
