  1. Apparently they had little to no supplies. It seems to me that if you were going out on Hood on a day of expected snowfall, you'd bring enough gear to last a night. How hard is that? a couple cliff bars and a down jacket. --eternal
  2. I agree with the remark about staying away from AT&T's new GPRS service. It sucks. I'd return this ericsson t68 piece of crap if i could, but i can't. --eternal
  3. Well, it's probably a combination of both. The genetic mutations that allow for this were probably caused by where they lived. If this tribe has lived there for several hundred years, then their bodies have adapted to the altitude, which COULD be reflected in their genetic code. Also, happy get drunk day
  4. Just to note, AFLAC doesn't pay out it's share if you're using ropes. Apparently if you're just carrying them, it's okay, but not if you're actually strapped in. So if you fall, get that rope off! w00p!
  5. $750 US. *ouch*
  6. it is Brill's class, so I think I'm going to catch it. I'll be the one in the back
  7. Talk about a web site with zero information. Some details on the classes would be nice.
  8. This would probably be pretty cool if any of the classes were in the NW.

    Snow camping

We just use a couple snow pickets for a base. Hopefully you're not using them while you're cooking!
  10. This 3 day classroom, 1 day field class any good? It's $140 and I'm thinking it'd be easier to undertstand this stuff in person, then through the freedom of the hills book.

  12. Looks like we're going to try and get in early Thursday and hike up the road that night, since they are going to bo locking the gate today far the season. I think we're going to bring the snowshoes, but i just hate bringing them and not using. Oh well, better safe then sorry. Thanks guys. --tim
  13. quote: Originally posted by allison: So you, the taxpayers of Washington have consistently voted to lower your taxes, and now you bitch that the gov't is saving money by salting the roads! Perhaps you should have thought of that before you voted to lower your taxes. Washington isd now ranked 49th out of 50 states in per capita $ for roads. Another case for the privitazation of roads. Cheers.
  14. I know it's not in the Cascades, but does anybody have any experience with the Mountaneer's route on Whitney during the winter? Keep going back and forth on whether to bring snowshoes or not and how many days it's going to take. I just heard through a local Lone Pine store that the last guy who tried to summit in 2 days failed misreably, but no more information and the Whitney Portal Store web site is dead (yay for technology). We've got 3 days prepared and we're all in pretty good shape, but just curious if there are any special tips out there. Thanks. --tim
  15. Heading down to Whitney in a couple weeks and I want to get in some decent snowshoe hikes beforehand. What's the closest place to Seattle that's tough and interesting in this fall of no snow? Thanks.
