As a matter of fact, I can think of at least one climber who trains special ops soldiers for the US.

Talk to CBS or I and we'll haul you around Vantage sometime next spring. We love newbies

Gym would be good. Usually they have a beginner course to get you schooled on belaying and knots and what not. Having hiking skills is a great first step, as a lot of climbing is actually hiking (approach). Make sure you throw in a MOFA (Mountaineering Oriented First Aid) class and some survival schooling too, to round everything out. I find it funny how most newbie people fear climbing, or mountaineering, or hold it at a higher threshold than such things as hiking. It's all a matter of getting comfortable on the terrain which is pretty straight forward in Washington. Now go to Alaska and you might "bite of more than you can chew".

By moving this crap to "Spray" and pointing said user to some facts about rescue costs and directing them to the WTA website

Wow Social Work, eh! You probably already know hundreds of climbers already then, but just don't know it. You are probably the most valuable person who has joined this forum in years, except maybe for that Nodder person

BobC, I don't want anyone coming and looking for my sorry ass when the shit hits the fan. I am making copies of this statement for my lawyer, posting it here for witnesses, and having it added to my Last Will and Testament and noterized.

Nice , maybe Lillooet isn't looking so good now. Hmmmmm.... -
Is it me, or is Phil Jones asking to get his ass booted. Probably doesn't even know what NSFW or LYSMSTFU means either!!

CBS, doesn't climb with a rastafarian bivy kit, he should be belittled and chastized since he is obviously unprepared for long days out in the cold. -
Damn, you need to work on you penmanship.

stop posting for a few hours so I can catch up. That'd be great. I was looking for that stapler.

Better make sure there's no SAR's going on, because if there is the place is liable to be shut down. Happy Birthday Rob!! -
How about a page or "Web Ring" of everyone who has there own website? I bet there's a lot of folks with sites that could really expand the knowledge base of climbing routes. For instance, AlpineDave, Ade, MattP, Skykilo, etc... Of course, it would be fair to let everyone opt in instead of being added automatically.

This is basically my point in starting this thread. What kind of precedent does this set for policies of the agencies involved? The first glaciated peak I ever climbed was Mt Baker when I was 15 years old, via the C-D route. When we got to base camp a man had a heart attack and had to be flown off the mountain. Unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital. Now, while it's no week long SAR event, it didn't stop anyone else that day from continuing on. Actually, made me a bit more determined.

I usually poo in the morning, so wait for my response tomorrow.

Timmay, change the "Portal Page" link to the new frontpage.
-
I guess I don't understand the mentality that everyone should stay away from the mountain this weekend. Go out climb, get off the couch and go get some. What's the need for them to shut the whole mountain down, I bet there will be hordes of skiers/boarders at Timberline (probably been there all week). Should they shut down skiing, that could get in the way. Maybe they should shut down climbing on Denali until they've remove all the bodies on that sucker ??

This could be construed as a good thing or bad thing, depending on your gender and sexual orientation.

Kauli, look back a few pages on this thread and there are many links. You can also start on CNN.com or MSNBC.com, I believe this story is on their front page. At least it has been the last few days. There's a lot of people (real climbers) that have a lot of belief that these guys are indeed hunkered down, playing cribbage, and are going to have one hell of a story about reading their sleeping bag labels for the last few days. ~~~~~ Good vibes

STFU, moron!! Positive vibes only please people

WTF?? What was the point of this comment? Life goes on, I would think those three, if they are gone (that's a HUGE if), should be honored by people climbing Hood. This is the same argument that the families of the people who crash on Mt Slesse use to justify trying to make that mountain off limits to climbers. Come on people, quit talking out of your asses. Those guys need some positive vibes
-
It's not getting there that's the problem, it's getting back

Don't miss this guys. :moondance: :moondance:

Now that's funny :lmao:
