I would argue that there is absolutely ZERO excuse for cutting any sort of old-growth, or even well established second growth. If timber companies cannot make a profit from renewable logging on their land then...well, I dont really give a fuck. If they have to charge more, than that is what is nescessary. If end consumers end up paying more for housing, than so be it, that is how the market works. There is no excuse for us to be paying to line the pockets of timber companies, esp. when they are cutting trees that have value in their present state.

God I hate fucking snaffles. One of them ate up the headphones for my MP3 player a few weeks ago.

Maybe I should split this into a seperate thread, but I am curious on exactly what should be done about trail access funding. I know we all bitch about it, but what should we do? Would we all complain if the parking passes went entirely towards maintaining roads, trailheads and trails? After all, somebody needs to pay to keep the roads and parking lots at a useable standard. FW, I think my real beef with loggon on federally land is that you and I own that land and I don't care to give my land to the timber companies so they can make money of it. Yes, the argument would be taxes from the sales benifit us all, but the reality is we benifit 1% and the timber companies benifit 99%

[TR] Alta Mountain- Supar #1 Technical Walkup Route 7/29/2004
JoshK replied to JoshK's topic in Alpine Lakes
It is indeed a great combo! He has always been a hiker, but not much for backpacking or climbing. I took him climbing on Ingalls once. We were talking about doing a 3 day trip in the olympics, which would definiltey be fun. -
Yeah, seamgrip is a good diea for lots of things. The sad fact is talus and scree rip up stiching on boots, no matter what the boot is. Protect the stitching and they'll last a lot longer.

I think in this case Klenke is right. While I think it's a first ascent of a route, I dont think "getting with a hundred feet" counts as an ascent in the case of a first ascent of a whole mountain. It just isn't the same as stopping a few feet from the summit of a peak in the cascades and then considering it a summit. The fact remains that nobody has stepped foot on the highest point on that mountain.

so back to the original question...does anybody know what actually happened?

I think Tex hit the nail on the head, as my dad would say. I would like to add that the beauty of climbing is the lack of scorekeepers, awards, etc. Let's keep it that way and leave the awards to basketball players and javelin throwers. Climbing is about keeping score with yourself. To modify Alex Lowe's saying..."THe best climbers are the ones who meet and stretch their own goals, and feel great about it."

Ahh, I have thick skin. I was just stating what Will did. I see no reason why we need to support bandwidth and storage for random internet dwellers and spambots. If they need a totally random spray board, go to the somethingawful.com forums. I also thought this was a spray section for spray between us cc.com board members. Anyway, you're right...easy enuf to ignore. P.S. Greg, seriously man, seek some anger management help. I know it's tough living an angry and lonely life, but there are help for these problems.

Yup, what DPS said. FWIW, the walk from the rocks to the actual summit (on the snow ridge) is all of 10 feet as of a couple of weeks ago. On a more general note, the E ridge of Eldorado is most certainly a very reasonable climb any time of year. Obviously in the winter the snow ridge will be steeper (it's cool!!) and the E ridge mostly covered with snow, but still not technical. It all depends on your experience and comfort level...

For single day ice climbing I got a pair of these "glacier gloves" which are neoprene with a thin fleece lining. Obviously they dont breathe, but they are about as warm as you could want.

The rise of "Church Inc." is a really bad thing. Again, it is things like this that make me feel sorry for those members of the christian faith who don't think of religion like these nutjobs do.
-
I'm curious why this "award" is being handed out by the OR branch considering almost all the activity is in WA or BC in terms of interesting climbing in the PNW?
-
It's pointless crap dropped by somebody who doesn't even participate on the board. Just some random dude that spams random webboards.

Ironically, the general correlation between wealth+intellect/education is inversely proportional to religious beliefs. Meaning on a whole the trend is the less money you make and the less educated you are, the more likely are to belief in religion. Seems funny that christ would reward his followers with little yet his disbelivers with wonderful lives, doesn't it??
-
wally, wtf are you talking about? People like you and adolf falwell are what give religion a bad name.
-
My favorite sleep on rainer was at camp hazard on a warm, fairly windless night. 20 degree bag, no bivy or nothing...just under teh stars...and plenty warm.
-
Falwell is a genious. Clearly 9/11 was payback for gays, "abortionists", secular schools, and god forbid, that damn organize that fights for equal rights...the ACLU!! How dare they!
-
You must be really high up on that wall. The old growth thousands of feet below you looks like twigs! A brave solo indeed!
-
Dude, WTF. Mods, can we delete this?
-
recommended? Is it truly not chossy crap like the rest of the peak looks like? Are the 5.8 sections legit?
-
Yes, LIke I said, there is a way. You may want to find specific beta since I am not sure what the recommended route is. the "sketchy" traverse is very technical, and exposed, climbing. It isn't a way to get from one place to another for certain, unless you are specifically wanting to be on that ridge
-
It's mostly rocks as it is now. You can avoid almost all the snow if you choose. If you'd rather have snow, move 40 feet to the right and climb the snow.

Falwell...what a fucking nazi son of a bitch. I *hope* the republicans trumpet him out...it'll further the belief that they pander to the nazi christian right wing assholes. I like this quote... "The Bible is the inerrant ... word of the living God. It is absolutely infallible, without error in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as well as in areas such as geography, science, history, etc." Yes, as we all know the bible really nails science and geography on the head! And if you like revisionist history, it's great at that as well...
