  1. The Surprise & Glacier Lakes area is really nice. I have been back there once and can definitely attest to the nice terrain and scenery.
  2. I saw mention somewhere of something named the Pacific Northwest Trail that apparently travels from the Pacific ocean on the WA coast to Glacier NP in Montana. Has anybody heard of this??
  3. Is a pack of threating dogs a standard BC objective hazard?

    Powered Lycra!!

Finally - no more labored breathing and sweating on approaches.
  5. Let's just skip to the chase and make Chair Peak it's own forum. I think there have been more reports from Chair Peak this winter than every other mountain combined.
  6. It's the new trend for the very good climbers trying to maintain the "low profile" or "low publicity" lifestyle while still being able to inform the public of their accomplishments.
  7. Glad to hear you are ok - that is scary shit. I remember scaring myself somewhat on the upper ice cliff as I pulled over a rapidly deteriorating bridge crossing a schrund unroped. Pretty dumb looking back and the same thing just as easily could have happened to me. -josh
  8. I think Sky and some other folks I don't recall have had his eye on this coulior for a while - if I remember correctly. So are you going to tell us what the climbing was like? Looks like just snow from the pics I've seen. Any ice, rock, etc?
  9. There is no way that cell phone companies are going to care about the issues that SAR or climber people raise. They make no money supporting analog so a few people can feel safe in the mountains. They make more money putting up higher-density digital towers to expand business and personal cell phone use.
  10. Bull and shit. As a climber you well know mountain weather can change quickly. There is a difference surviving an extra 24 hours in the summer and during a blizzard.
  11. A guidebook, IMHO, is of minimal use in a state like WA. The problem is not that it is hard to find information on ice climbing areas but that finding information on conditions is next to impossible save obvious cold spells where lots of people are clmbing, such as a month or two back.
  12. Any clue why Nick originally started sliding?
  13. I like standing on top of shit, what can I say. So in the middle fork did the snow cover all the burned deadfall or did you have to deal with any of it? That looks like the most reasonable approach to formidable in the winter/spring on the map, but do you still think going up and over cascade pass and cache col is easier?
  14. Beautiful! That looks incredible. Very jealous... But 50 more feet? Gotta go to the top!
  15. Very true. The Pittsburgians live in a city with so little else going for it - at least they have a good football team to keep them sane.
  16. Looks like Stuart to me....
  17. who gives a shit how talented they are - the point is it boring as hell to watch. Every jump is some sort of backflip. Yippee. I'm sure it's hard as shit and I know I could never do it but that doesn't mean it is worth watching.
  18. Yeah it wasn't... but it's not like they wouldn't have scored on the next play It was third down numnutz. They stopped them three times from the 1 yard line and without that bullshit call it would have been 3, not 7.
  19. Wow! hahah! I can't believe that shit held.
  20. I'll give you $200 for it.
  21. That was the worst officiated game I have ever seen. It was pretty obvious who the leaugue wanted to win this one. Did anybody else notice that like 80% of the "happy feel good" segments were on steelers players? A similar % of the black and white lombardi trophy pose pictures were Steelers also.
  22. Wow, things are different in Seattle than they are in Portland. Up here we love Paul Allen. If it weren't for him they would be the Anaheim Seaducks. Our vitriol is reserved for former owner Ken Behring. Owners aside I am just excited to watch a major team from my city play for a championship for the first time since I was four. We love Paul Allen?? Speak for yourself! It was a great business deal. He bilked us (the taxpayers) into buying him a stadium that he could make boatloads of money off. Do I have a problem with him making money? Absolutely not, but I shouldn't have to pay to help him out.
  23. Yeah, but considering the infrastructure of the two locations, I would imagine it is easier to escape that cold in Alaska than Mongolia. Those are some hearty folks.
