Has anybody skied up along the spine of Icicle Ridge as described in Rainer Burgdorfer's book? Looks like it might make a nice ridge tour.

Eh? Not sure I've seen super elaborate ski designs. It's pretty much a plank - granted it has evolved amazingly far from it's humble beginnings. Now what I do want to see is a "mixed ski", specially designed for those nice mixed rock/snow ski lines!

[TR] Mt. Athabasca/ Andromeda- 12/26/2005

Totally different beast. The tents you are talking about are made from the integral-tex fabric which is quite a bit thicker. I have one and it is certainly a bomber winter tent. The one he used is BD's thinner superlight version which is made from a non-waterproof fabric. Then again, it might make a perfectly reasonable choice given the appropriate conditions due to the super dry snow you guys get. I just find them a bit wimpy in high wind. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Classic! -
Looks fun! How stable was the snow going up to WA Pass? Seems like it would be awfully scary up there right now...

Any survey will show you why. The % of women who find the female body attractive is a lot higher than the % of men who find the male body attractive. Add that to the obvious fact that the vast majority of men find females more attractive and that most TV marketing is towards the 18-35 male demographic and you have your answer. More importantly the female body is art and the male body is merely utilitarian.

Yup, just those regular headphone jacks. One should be for input (microphone) and the rest for output.

I find using an EDK to tie rappel slings is quite nice for saving time and struggle in cold climates. When ice climbing, for example, tying an EDK takes no time at all and can be done with heavily gloved hands where as a dbl fisherman takes longer and may require more fiddling. I'm a wimp so that is my preference for the EDK in that situation.

Baker had over 100" for a few days early in the season before the shittastically warm weather came in....

Eh...seems less than useful. If I am going to be wearing a leash I actually want the security of being protected from my own stupid self dropping a tool. You can certainly still drop a tool with this setup. I'll stick with the androids, which are pretty damn easy to clip - IMHO. In fact, I think if my sorry ass can clip androids then anybody who can't should maybe find a sport other than ice climbing.

Isn't that Teanaway road always open to the 29 mile camp? If so, it isn't that far down the road - granted, 5 or 6 miles I think, but manageable as I was thinking of an overnight tour. -josh

Whoever removed the two comments poking fun at the term "quiver" needs to get a fucking life.

Dru, do you know what events are going to be held where? I imagine lots of stuff up in the hills since Vancouver is about as "wintry" as seattle. It's good to see the 99 getting improved. I'm surprised more deadly accidents don't occur on that stretch of highway.
-
Wow, fucking wild. I can't believe there is enough snow in the winter and enough protection from that hot sun to "grow" snow patches around there. Pretty neat, really!
-
Anybody tried to the terrain up the Beverly and Standup creek drainages in the Teanaway? It looks like you can string together treed areas to get pretty high. I remember being able to stay in trees (or flat terrain) all the way up to Navaho Pass and on to the Navaho Peak summit with careful navigation. Has anybody explored this area in the *winter*?? I know it is very popular in the spring...

hells yeah. raise a glass to that.

??? Where are there permanent snow patches near LV????

So at what point to tools become so fucking unbelievably specialized, funky, ugly, twisted and totally inpractical for anything but a very specific type of climbing that they become "aid" rather than tools?
-
Cause it makes you look better? In all seriousness though, i have always thought that training should involve every muscle in the body, even if you are emphasizing the training of certain groups. Nothing makes me laugh more than the meathead "lightbulbs" in the gym who have a giant upper body and chicken legs. An out-of-balance chest/back combo is bad too, imho, so I think working both is important.

Yes, quite obviously....just curious because it seems most of the time people on here are happy when logging operations and the like move away. I'm glad to see that people actually notice when, yet again, big companies fuck over families and communities for profits. I guess that is just the way it works though...

Yeah, no shit...getting down from Muir to Paradise in a whiteout while sporting a nice little head change is at *least* as exciting (even more challenging?) as any of the things you had planned to do!

Sorry for the ignorance, but isn't a pulp mill closing generally a good thing? I tend to recall them stinking up everything within a large radius. Workers losing their jobs is tho...

You mean the snow patches?

Honestly, with all the places that lift served skiing can expand, it might as well be the south side of snoqualmie pass. It's a fun playground, but it would be a stretch to call it 'scenic' when compared to the rest of the Cascades. I would much rather see them tear up that area then anything around the other ski ares, Alpental included.
