Three years ago i was climbing at the top of my game. I becasem very ill and was bleeding rectaly.i was dropping weight quickly and very animic. i was pretty convinced i had colon cancer and after avoiding for 4 months finaly went to the doc. they thought i had Chrones or Colitus but after a colonoscapy they discoverd it was some kind of parasite that was already gone. the doc told me i would be okay after a year or so. i still have yet to atain the level of fitness that i had just before that.

mole skin.... athletic tape works too and is easier to take off. get used to pain... thats what climbing mountains is all about. or so i understand

do you wear a light base layer (or whatever they are called) sock under the smart wool (or whatever you have)?? this makes the friciton between the socks and leaver your heal out of it. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. i can not tell you how many paris of hiking boots i have been through because none of them are perfect.

I have become convinced that these people are so insecure that they have to at least look like they are talking to someone even if they are not. it makes me sad. whats with the soccer moms with the mobile glued to thier heads? don't they talk to thier children? we don't always talk in the car... sometimes we *ROCK OUT* I love that my boys are old enough to enjoy music as loud as it will go and bang their heads in the car with me. i am pretty sure every one in our neighborhood thinks i am insain

I had never heard of this "recipe" until just today, when my climbing partner was describing how he had whipped it up at his campsight this morning. I thought he was being a little cavalier in his culinary combinations with this, but apparently it has a following. Best, healthiest breakfast I remember eating was served to me by a family in Germany; they soaked oats overnight in milk, then stirred in sunflower seeds, wheat germ, sesame seeds, yogurt, fresh, kiwi, banana and strawberries before serving in the morning. It was like a cold, hearty porridge. Good eats! damn i thought i made that shit up

my favorite summer breakfast is a can of no sugar added peaches and frozen strawberrys. blended. it's like a slurpy. but i usualy have 1/2 cup of oat meal mixed with a pkg of non fat no sugar added hot chocolate. (50 calories dude i sware) and the right amount of hot water to make it goowey. there is this diner in town, the make a sausage omelate with hash browns a side of gravey and to die for blueberry coffe cake. *sigh* i love that. nancy's yogart cut up fruite and granola, thats yummy and left over from my hippy veggie days. 6 3ggs slived turky, spinich tomato yellow peppers, greyar cheese mushrooms garlic onion and what ever else i can find Fritta mmmmmmmm 3 hard boild eggs and 2 slices of cantalope. hmmmmm i really like breakfast.

Finally, another granola hippie! When I'm super active I cant' stomach the knarly grease in the mornings.... it'll just end up back on the counter... I like the whole oatmeal with whey protein powder, flaxseed, almonds, honey, cinnamon and whatever other super high calorie stuff you can think of. Either that, or just copious quantities of dark chocolate and thermos esspresso...... nothing works better than pure adrenal carnage to get you up a glacier at 1:00am! steel cut oats are the best kick start for in the morning cuz they take alot of energy to digest which starts the body up....so i hear. and I forgot about coffee. Oh and replace the honey (which actually is glorified sugar) with the grade b maple syrup (full of minerals and vitamins). I'm on a "cleanse" right now so my breakfast involves salt water and lemon/syrup/cayanne water...spam a woman i know at my office has been doing that. when i talked to her on friday she was on day 7 and had dropped more than 10 pounds. she looks like hell though and doesen't have the energy to work out. I want to try it but i don't have the time to be on my ass for 2 weeks. how is your energy level holding up to the lack of chewing stuff???

Yes Lets write a book for reals, everytime i start training hard and thinking i am going to get something going and i am going roxor... i get injured or violently ill. i am thinking the universe is telling me something. not really sure what. but it's something. the title of our Cult should be "how to ecxell at being mediocer" and our research can start with "the Theory of Good enough"--some lady already wrote that book

I think money is much better spent on programs such as the above than on a mountaineering class/experiment. 7,000 people and three villages are helped, rather than a few handful. Mountaineering is a luxury. No food, clean water and basic health care: no big expedition fun. I would encourage people, if they wish to support the Mountain Fund, to do so in a way that addresses larger groups of people at their most basic needs, rather than some "All-Star" climbing experiment...and yes it will be an experiment, socially and otherwise, though no doubt well-meant. <3 thank you raindog for saying what was in my heart and i could not find the words to say.

gotcha, enjoy it while you can

to avoid facing any kind of truth other than the one they are spoon fed by thier peers, media and society. critical thinking is a thing of the past. Ok, I am not sure I understand your post, but I'm thinking real critically now. I'm thinking that any attempt at using resources less wastefully is welcome, even if it's something you apparently see as weak, like 2 people in a car that used to have 1 in it. So what is your point? If you REALLY want to argue about the definitions of words, there is actually A BOOK ALL ABOUT THAT. What I am saying is that it is bull shit to get all self righteous when you are but a tiny itty bitty drop in a bucket that is not getting full very fast. I am not saying it is pointless I am just saying it is not making any big difference. If you want to make a big difference you certainly can. I know people who live totally off grid and are really happy that way. THAT is their hobby as they grow much of their own food and make the BEST choices possible most of the time. If you want to be self righteous... do that.

Or make boyfriends... My boyfriend has a car and when we go climbing or to the mountains we usually carpool and find a bunch of ppl who also want to go and split the gas. I have one or two of those as well darlin' but I don't NEED any of them. Being left with 2 kids and 3 $ taught me to never ever base my life on any one man period. To safely ride in a gas efficient car the most people you could safely transport are 4 including the driver. Any more than that and you are likely in a vehicle that is less than fuel efficient. Unless your boyfriend has purchased one of the brand new ford Hybrids, or he has opted to use bio diesel you are still wasting resources. What I am trying to point out is that you have to look at both sides of the equation. You have to live how you believe, and believe how you live. You don’t do that hunny. I have my own car(i don't like to drive and wont if i can find someone else to do it, but if i want to i can), my own home, and my own gear. I have often opted to head out to climb with a bunch of people and that is a great time. One of the things I really love is to head out and go hike alone. It is blissful and peaceful and life affirming. It is also a great time to take my boys hiking. They are more fun than most adults and the best hiking buddies ever.

will you tell that to the neandrithal who set routes at my gym??

Muffy, I think you meant Z-Clipped. no i meant back clip, had i meant z clip i would have said it. i have yet to z clip, and i think that would scare me even more. it really shook my confidence and was disorienting to back clip.

my intention was never to batter or give anyone a bad time, only to bring up questions and encourge people to think things through before jumping on the "good feeling" band wagon.
