It's a myth that illegal immigrants are the cause of a crime wave in this country, but that doesn't mean they don't commit crimes, some of which are really horrible, as is the case with the incident you've held up as an example. As j_b has substantiated, immigrants are actually less likely offenders than the indigenous population. I'm not saying that illegal immigration from Mexico is not a problem that needs to be addressed, I'm saying that this law in Arizona will do next to nothing to change that. You've got to change the demand rather than try to stifle the supply. If there were no jobs here for illegal immigrants, the flow would reduce to a trickle. As long as they can find work here that provides an economic opportunity they can't find at home they will come, despite the myriad of hardships and impediments, including increased police harassment. Trying to stifle the supply has worked so well for the War On Drugs, eh?

The AZ law will have almost no effect on immigration, its all about keeping those folks in their place.
