  2. WOW!! That is amazing and gory all at the same time
  3. Is that what your climbin in Rob? I saw some recently and thought they looked a little clunky....maybe that's just my huge flipper feet and not the shoe
  4. Aaahhh well , I was doing some endurance racing, beer drinking, you know Bill, a little of this a little of that, trying to get back into climbing shape now that summers over.
  5. anybody heading out tonight?
  6. I'm looking for an all day climbing shoe that is #1 comfortable to wear all day and #2 has some performance value and does not feel like it is built like a board. I would use this shoe for mostly multi-pitch climbs in the .10a-b range. Anybody got any suggestions
  7. You can find all of the Portland area climbs, including Beacon in the Portland area rock climbs guide book. I've seen it available everywhere from REI to OMC, to Mountain Supply; don't remember the cost though.
  8. "...my asshole boss won't let me off early..." Uuuhhh Bill, I thought you were the boss?
  9. There is no doubt the Butte is generally a fairly dirty place to climb, but unlike Broughton's the Butte offers a larger assortment of climbing choices, i.e. you can set up a TR on most climbs and there is a wider variety of moderates. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy topping out to broken glass and used condoms, although it is nice to find the old porno mag or two, the Butte is just very convenient and for me 15 minutes closer is 15 minutes longer I can flail about on my 5.2R wonder project.
  10. I was down there last night and like Bill said, it was very crowded; in fact every route had a rope on it and I counted a total of 11 different climbers (including myself and non-internet-spraying partner) Silverbullet is suprisingly clean for this time of year with very little chalk, Last Tango is pretty well greased up as is Fandango and the little trad line in the corner. Still one of my favorite spots at the butte.
  11. I think you will have an extremely hard time getting it absolutely clean, especially since it actually had mold growing in it. Other than using bleach, I think your best bet would be to fill it about half way full of water, then drop in a couple of Alka Seltzers. (that is basically what you are buying if you buy some of those bladder cleaners at your local gear shop) You'll have the hardest time with cleaning the hose and mouth piece. Personally I would just toss it and buy a new one, they're relatively cheap and it would be worth not getting sick because there was still some mold spores in there that you sucked down.
  12. Yeah, the park on Orcas is pretty sweet, nice to see a community pull together and build something like that. They had a huge party up there when it opened, a bunch of top skaters came in and put on a killer exhibition, hell, even Warren Miller donated some coin for that thing.
  13. This coming thanksgiving, I'm going to have the opportunity to visit some family that just moved to Snow Canyon, Utah. So I'm just starting to do some research on this area and was was wondering if anybody had some experience as to what the temps might be that time of year and if it would be worth trying to hit some place like Bryce for a little climbing while we are there.
  14. I was thinking rock, not DT when I left the house this morning, don't have any gear for that today.
  15. Anybody thinking about being there tonight
  16. The closest climbing in pdx is out at rocky butte. There always seems to be a cc.com group hooking up and climbing out there during the week.
  17. I'll put my vote in for a 2004 Salsa Caballero. This is a great bike with excellent geometry and it is extremely light too. I bought my frame 2 1/2 months ago from universal cycle (who price matched) for under $500 and built it up with previously owned parts. My bike weighs just over 25lbs and climbs just as well as it decends. The bike is very versatile, I have ridden it on casual trail rides and just completed the Cascade Cream Puff (100 mile mtn bike race) and obviously have nothing but good things to say about it.
  18. Yep, saw the dread-pirate fido in the park last night me-self, although I can not verify if there was any peanut butter involved in his speed ascent of the Leif Ericcson trail or not.
  19. Bill, What would a person need to bring should they be interested in coming out?
  20. Huckleberry panacakes use to be our rally cry after a climb. Nothing quite as motivating as the thought of hucklberry cakes and an order of crispy hasbrowns. mmmmmm...good times!
  21. Yes, I see dogs all the time, even on the summit Not sure about the lift, maybe 9? If you have skins, I'd go that route, it makes coming down a whole lot faster. I've slept in the upper, lower and overflow lots and have never been hassled. I like the O.F. lot because there are no lights down there.
  22. There are two fun cracks to the right of Silver Bullet Bluff, just to the right of Fandango, which is a very exciting lead. The one on the far right is called Superman .7? and I can't remember the one in the middle, but the one in the middle is a sweet little gem. You can lead it with a small handful of nuts and then set a top rope up off the tree at the top.
  23. Tomorrow afternoon!!
