uh, so how would roosevelt gone about getting us control of central and eastern europe? the russian army was ginormous and they were thoroughly pissed after 2 world wars had raped the shit out of them - no way would stalin have accepted anything less than he got w/o more war. i guess we coulda nuked em into oblivion, but roosevelt didn't even know the bomb would work before he died.

i don't see how this is much different from what lbj did in '65 - misrepresenting, obfuscating, exagerating - i like that mcclellan's at least being honest about it all, but is any of this really a ground-breaking revelation?
-
i've only gotten through the first few pages so far - where will the whiskey n' smokes fit into the whole regime i wonder?

shouldn't this chick be climbing a hotel room wall?

[TR] Mount Rainier - DC Route, Ingram Flats BC 5/19/2008
ivan replied to doumall's topic in Mount Rainier NP
woulda been funnier if she'd said no and bolted and you had to do the descent solo! congrats. next time you go up there she gets to tell you you're having a kid. -
poaching another man's line is like stealing another man's girl after he done spent all his money getting'er liqueored up enough to accept his gumbly advances, no?
-
Absolutely nothing is more important than me. and my machete...
-
no shit - i think i've met at least 3 people on the board who've gotten seriously mangled on bikes
-
shit, for a twist on this, why can't we make soylent green power our cars too? i doubt charlton woulda got much attention that way - i'm totally willing to power my hummer on grandma's ashes!

weather might not have been perfect but for my memday 4 day weekend i played sport-climber boy one day, took the family camping one day, hiking hte next, plus slogged up to 10k on the cooper spur in the middle of a thunderstorm - i'll take it...
-
did most of this route today - approached in foul weather y-day and bivied in the stone shelter at 6700 - cleaned all the snow out of the shelter and cut in a sweet bench - the continous sound of pounding rain on the metal roof all night made me happy not to have wandered up to the tie-in rock area to spend the night in a snow cave in the cloud murk - great booting conditions on the upper spur - some slide activity, made much more intimidating when climbing in the total white-out above 9k. nobody on the mtn on the n side on memorial day! i'd say bivyign in the tilly jane hut is practically worthless - you've only gained 2k and 2.5 miles from the p-lot? why not just do a light weight bivy at the stone shelter or in a cave higher up? or just do the whole thing in a day? snowshoes are pointless currently and no doubt will be for folks interested in the spur for the rest of the season - really interesting part sand/part snow fields in the meadows around 6k

i've never met the guy - does he truly have no sense of humor? if so, would that still reduce the coolness factor of having rowed across most of the largest damn ocean on earth in a cracker-box?

oddly, my strongest, most nostalgic connections to country music come from living in a little bavarian village that reeked of cowshit (a smell that since has always deeply reminded me of home and good times climbing hills and tramping about through dark woods) i also have a silly mental connection between john denver and the fucking autobahn!

da'llright, this could be fixing to get a whole hell of a lot more interesting...

doesn't matter what gender a person is, they're all pink on the inside!
-
perhaps, suspecting htat pink would be fulfilling his lifelong ambition to climb el cap on monday, kevbone was wishing him the hb while he'd be able to hear it?
-
goddamn, i've dug on the highwayman since i was wee'un - always reminded my of that whitman quote "and to die is far different from what anyone ever supposed, and luckier"

Come on KK, he who dares, wins... grow some balls and drive to Vantage like porter is suggesting. I want an alpine summit. It's a 3-day weekend Goddamnit! Enough with the cragging. so go do an alpine summit - maybe you'll get lucky and get above the clouds - maybe the weather will piss off - maybe you'll just end up in your tent telling jokes and getting loaded...it's all good, unless you take a republican for your conversation purposes!
-
what's wrong w/ cragging in the rain again? been doing it all winter/spring - the harder it rains, the steeper route you gotta look for! our local crags of beacon and ozone both have fine options even in a great goddamn deluge climbing in the muck is what makes you a hardman - any fucking pussy can climb in the sun, no?
-
come'on mike, i was figuring you'd have luther wright n' the wrongs the wall revamp? was thinking of you 2day boy - did a route at ozone i figured you give at least negative 1 star to! plus another .12 you might even give a reluctant 1/2 star to (the fact that i'd even be able to lead to the top, one way or the other, being the biggest turn-off)
-
dunno but goign that way this weekend - i'm planning on having to hoof it from the ski area but not concerned - even from there it's just 2 hours or so to tilly jane/cloudcap. you only gain a 1/2 hr to hr if you can get as far up the road as the 2nd gate, which i'd say is damned unlikely watcha planning on doing? wanna plan a moon-tower party at tie-in rock?!?
-
there are really 3 bivy sites on the ridge - 1 at the base, 1 at the notch and the summit (though there's one at the base of the gendarme too i think, but i'm pretty certain a tent won't fit there?) you can do the i-ten at the first and last in my list for certain, and probably at the notch too, though i'd recommend just a 32 degree bag and some tyvek and that's it. my last time bivy'ing there i had just a bivy sack and down jacket and thought it too cold - a bag and nothign else oughta be fine, good weather permitting.

And he managed to find time to be a US president while doing it Huh? I dont get it.. harding didn't survive his presidency though - he was one of the illustrive 40% of us presidents who either died/was killed in office or survived an assasination attempt
