  1. I don't climb sandstone when I can climb damp granite. I have had two pieces pop due to the softness of the rock at Peshastin. I would gladly go there to climb the routes you are describing but I would be very careful about pushing myself into a fall.
  2. Roosevelt wanted to go into Europe against Germany years earlier. He was a great military strategist. I would go with his position as we spent the first half of our involvement trying to get a foothold in the air so we could bomb their factories. And it was Eisenhower in his final speech as president who stated the the greatest threat for the next President to confront was the US military-Industrial complex. Our economic base is growth oriented. The question to answer logically and scietifically is "how much longer can EVERYTHING continue to grow?" Eventually, we will reach a limit and have to radically adjust our value for what constitutes a "healthy economy". Huge corporations do not consider human costs. They are legally bound to "fiduciary responsibilities."
  3. I like your take on things. My MO is to take a year off after every 6 of working. I still take time off during those six years, but for me it seems I need a full sabbatical every 6 years or so to create new neural pathways...helps me stay out of a rut. Ever read Po Bronson's book What Should I do with my life? - case studies about people asking the question. It's interesting. Work won't make you happy, nor will a relationship or anything else outside of you...gotta find that peace from within. Thank you. More people should fall in line. But seriously folks,,,,,,, I get no respect. I have heard many old people say they wish they had spent less time at work and more with their kids. NEVER the other way around. Ask a centurion what the secret to old age is and they will usually say "hard work, play a lot, eat your vegetables, and work your brain every day."
  4. I use fairly light down or synthetic parka with hood and light moonstone polarguard 3D overpants for real cold over my schollers. It would be pretty miserable to not have a sleeping bag with this combo, even with a bivy bag inside a tent. Sometimes I take a very light sleeping bag (1 lb, 8 oz) inside a bivy bag with my parka and pants on. I have spent a couple nights out without bivy or tent or bag and survived. Those nights really stick in my mind. Adventure is great but I prefer comfort and have more energy the following day.
  5. Find bliss while keeping the brain active. Hard to find for most. That's why I like the European model of month long holidays. Just think how you would feel after a month off. I am a contractor at Microsoft and do just that. 100 days off after each year. It reconnects me with what I liked about my job. Perception is everything. All that you know is just a variation on basic energy theory. Call it the big bang, quantum physics, God, or whatever. We are all just vibrations in a very large stew. If you are not happy, it will reverbrate into every part of you and make you sick. Feed your young but don't sacrifice your health.
  6. Dark Side of the Moon. Serve Kool-aid.
  7. Sat Night Live opened with Bill and Hillary impersonators talking about how the press is trying to make their riches an issue even though they foreclosed everything the press is coming up with as the events happened. Like their book deals, speaking fees etc. Same is true here with McCain's money. It's old news. Lots of smart people are rich regardless of their political persuaision. I did find the rest of the points interesting.
  8. Yes. So don't wear oversized shoes.
  9. that was very mean spirited Hopefully, rumr appreciates irony. But just in case, I do wish great happiness for him and you too. There. Now which do you prefer, a Bug who bites a little or a soft gushy Bug? I was just joking around, you jizz-gargling clownpuncher. I got that part. What is a clown puncher so I know wether or not to deny it. Do they climb at all? We'll find out this week... I don't like oversized shoes.
  10. When it hurts, cut it off.

    Sacajawea Theory

When my girls were little, we would buy them a few things for Christmas but the rest of the family would pour things down upon us. There were times when the pile of presents would obscure the bottom branches of the tree. The girls literally tired of opening presents.

  14. Well at least you're married and getting regular sex. Right?
  15. Great work! Keep posting here to let us know how things are going and keep reminding us to send $.
  16. But seriously, this is a good idea imo. Why not give our climbing bum friends a hand? If you have a skill that needs advertising, why not post it here, now? We can move it later if we need to. So for example, I am a Microsoft platform developer. I currently contract at Microsoft but will be looking for a new job in the fall if they don't hire me full time. I do Web dev, SQL dev, C#, CRM 3.0 and CRM 4.0.
  17. My Canon A720 was on sale last Nov for $223 including tax. 8mp, 6X optical zoom, 2 AA, lcd and viewfinder so I can turn the lcd off, light, compact. Takes a 2G SDA and I think even a 4G. Shoots great movies too.
