  1. yeah doesn't have to be a life threatening injury - my cousin kept falling down and getting concusions as a youngster. he's pretty dumb now. coincidence?
  2. True story - my father, an expert skier of 25+ years, somehow skied off the side of an intermediate run inbounds and down a steep embankment and cracked his skull open. 12 hours of brain surgery. Thankfully he is in fine health now, but for a few weeks this was in question. This was before helemts were popular in the mid 80s. Seems like just because there are more back, leg, etc injuries doesn't seem like a good reason to avoid the bigest and most debilitating injury. Don't know about y'all but my brain pays the bills, and a $100 helmet is worth any inconvenience it might present. Besides I like skiing in the trees
  3. Totally recyclable. Run stove until all gas is burnt. All of it. Every atom. Puncture. Throw in recycle bin. No more waste than a tin can. No one is going to officially tell you how to do this because if there is any fuel/pressure in the canister when you puncture it, it could blow up. Lawsuit. I've done it dozens of times since I got my PR. I turn away as I puncture, but never had a problem. Are you sure? I inquired and in Portland they will not pick this up with curbside recycling, you need to bring it to the recycling center yourself. Sno-peak canisters can be returned to the store they were purchased from (sans hole) for recycling.
  4. I'd say get whatever fits best and is light, this is probably the biggest diference in prices. Also I'd recomend the half shell type with a removable lower part that covers your ears and back of your head for warmth but that can be removed as well in warmer temps. True that helmets are warmer than a hat. Go for something with extreme graphics like lightening bols and stuff to impress the chics, LOL.
  5. I don't think there is one... Does that help?
  6. Ever been to this thing? I went last year and saw a whole lot of boy scout mess kits, russian titanium screws of unknown history, old-school footfangs and a bunch of nordic skis. The spray was worth it though. What time are you guys going? Pub club before the sale? Last year I picked up 5 Camalots .75, 1, 2, 3, 4 for $105. Not sure if I'm going this year though. If'n I did it sounds like a pre-sale pub club would be in order, who serves at 7am?
  7. On a slightly more useful note, the Mazamas gear sale is this Saturday.
  8. I would agree with this, coming from 210 cm skinny Volkl slalom skis a bunch of years ago to 181cm Shuksans (last years). I'm about 165 pounds and this length works well for me, great flotation and stability in heavy NW powder and crud.
  9. Formula for world economic dominance: Invade country, destroy infastructure. Give all reconstruction contracts to Haliburton. Pay for it with incapacitating loans to said invaded country. Repeat.

    Slugged

My buddy on the scramble out of Breaksfast Cracks at Rocky Butte, reached up for the one tough slopey move only to slap a big yellow banana slug into mush. He almost took a bit of a tumble on that one.
  11. Damnit man don't you know those laces go all the way around the shoe and shit? Yeah I guess the moral of the story is that its not really any different from mounting downhill bindings.
  12. I've mounted the Dynafits myself with success. I did not have a template or mounting jig, just made the measurements with the bindings themselves, wasn't too hard.
  13. Saweeet, I was going to try to make it down this weekend, this seals the deal. Where's 'The Grove' in Bend? Is it a big venue or should I look at getting tix beforehand?
  14. then let's have our own oregon bumblies roundup
  15. Maybe John Bobbit's....
  16. Grasslands = Skull Hollow Smith Rock Way is the turnoff from 97 in Terrebonne (at the Redpoint store).
  17. The PDX Rock Climbs has a good description, at least it got us there. I'd have a hard time describing it from memory but can post the books directions later on today. Go BoSox!
  18. word.
  19. Where can I get a lavendar shoelace tho???
  20. Anyone done this? Mine broke, and it looks like a real pain in the ass the way the lace goes all the way around the shoe...
