It is actually 5% on rei purchases and 1% on everything else (minus a few exceptions). That is actually not that great of a card if you are not planning to buy tons of stuff at rei. There are tons of cards out there that will give 1% for everything and something more (3%) for specifics, like gas, which we spend a lot more on. plus it looks like you have to wait to the end of the year to get your "rebates" and it must be used at rei. Really, this is a lame credit card. (as is most credit cards)

Why does anyone think I am defending this guy? My last point is that people are getting all excited about nothing. My first point is that hypocrisy exists in our climbing community. an even better question is why is there so much energy used for this discussion. The emotion and the time spent on one guy stealing a dozen or so draws. I mean, come on, if it was a set of cams, then I could understand. plus, I don't know the would be gear victim, but I would guess he got the draws on some sweet pro deal or bro deal. Does it really comes down to the fact that he has to put the draws back up there? Getting mad at 12 draws times $8/draw = $96. I was not trying to defend him. he is a serious douche head. He obviously didn't do the right thing on prior days and didn't even come up with a decent lie to cover his ass. Just because a bag is rated to -30 doesn't mean it is the same as another bag rated to -30. I find it hard to believe that any -30 synthetic is the same "warmth" as a down -30. That bag would fill any backpack. some companies use "survival" as a measure. Some use comfort as the measure. If you are buying a -30 bag, I think you need to need a comfort rating. Multiple nights at -30 in a survival rated bag could mean non-survival. Synthetic bags really only belong on a big wall. For alpine climbing, all this jibber jabber about "what if my bag gets wet" is ridiculous. Sounds like too much marketing, selling you that you need to have 10 sleeping bags. So yes it does matter. If you get a synthetic bag, you will be buying a down one before your next trip. So save yourself the money and just buy a quality down bag up front.

I lived in southern maine for a couple of years. I thought there were quite a few hippies living in NH and Maine, especially central to northern maine. What is the bostonian take on those birds? If you hate hippies (whatever that is), go east of the mountains. zero hippie factor in all of eastern washington, especially as get away from the eastern foothills.
