  1. 1. voice mail 2. I email someone with a yes or no question and they call me back and leave me a voice mail saying "Uh, I got your email and uh, No". Why not just Reply to the email?!
  2. Wowsa, now *thats* close
  3. Please excuse my ignorance but what is 'solo top roping'? Hang a rope from an anchor and move up an acsender as you climb? Thats all I can think of. Thx in advance...
  4. Wow, you had yersef a full-on bear encounter. They mostly just want to be left alone - probably the only reason he didnt leave right away was that he was curious. I'm sure you consider yourself very lucky - not just to escape unhurt but to have had that moment. Hey, you're a rich man.
  5. Sorry to hear about your accident and damnation, the way you were treated! Cheese-o-Pete, what this world has come to...
  6. Naw, cause McA would be behind the photographer. No, this one was to the photographers left of Tupshin, in other words, south of Bonanza and Tupshin. Seven Fingered Jack?
  7. All right then, if you're all that, tell me what this one is... also from Rainbow summit: yeah, whatizzit I, er, dont actually know myself... but I *think* I know what it is.
  8. Ah yes, Bonanza with Company Glacier from Rainbow Mtn. In the second photo, to the left of Bonanza is the rocky face of Tupshin. Here is photo of Rainbow with our scramble route: Rainbow Mtn
  9. same thing only different
  10. Photo taken April 26: whoa - lookit dat mount'in 1. Name the famous mountain and its glacier 2. Name the summit from which the photo was taken Dox
  11. Fairweather, damnation I've looked at that same outing myself. Low Devide, then Christie and Delebarre, then down to and out Enchanted Valley trail. I dont have the maps in front of me but I'd be really interested if you wanna go sometime. Coffee & maps? Dox
  12. Hey, perhaps we'll somehow see each other up there. My team is heading for the Kahiltna although I guess we'll miss each other since we are not heading for Denali, but I'd like us to somehow link up. We are planning on peak bagging in the area - Crosson, Francis, Kahiltna Dome, Peters Dome(?). We havent decided a team name yet but we have considered Bushwhackers on Ice. Maybe we'll see ya up there. Good luck on your climb. And yeah, it is coming up quick, eh? Dox
  13. I lost my ice axe in a bushwhack coming down off a peak in alaska's Lake Clark NP. Actually I didnt "lose" it cause I know exactly where it is. I just gotta go back and get it, thats all. Should only take a week and cost a thousand bucks but I'm gonna go back and get that axe.
  14. Nope, none of the big three. Crosson, Kahiltna Dome, Francis, Peak 12,200. Also considering Peters Dome but I dunno if time will allow that too. Should be a good ol' time Dox
  15. I emailed with Paul Klaus of Ultima Thule - boy he is knowlegeable about the area. Here is what he emailed me on 12/05/02: "The price into Blackburn (nebesna glacier - dox) would be $550 per person and I could fly you with our Turbine Otter all in one load which makes it real nice for larger expeditions. No one gets stuck out because of weather!" He is referencing Blackburn because I wanted to climb the North Ridge - Atna and Rime were to be Plan B if Blackburn wouldn't go. Anyway, that was his price for flying in to the Nebesna Gl. Thanks for the invite! Would love to join but I have other plans now. We are spending half the amount to go to Kahiltna Glacier and do some peak bagging in there. Dox
  16. I was planning to go in there this year - decided otherwise after getting bushplane costs from the pilot - $$!! Anyway, looks like a great neighborhood. Good luck! Dox
  17. We did it a few years ago in September. We got on a little low angle ice a couple times that would have been much easier kick stepping with snow. Lots of bears. Really thick whiteout a couple of times, especially at Queets Basin - be expert at map & compass or dont go. Went down via Elwha Snow Finger - the river had carved a tunnel through the snow - quite hazardous to pass through but we decided going through would be better than going over. Note that USGS maps for that area are 50' contours rather than the normal 40' - makes a difference! It was beautiful in September but perhaps earlier is better.
  18. Few years ago we were on the Bailey Range traverse. Sitting on the summit of Mt Carrie eating our sandwiches, we saw a lone hiker coming up the Fairchild Glacier. We were impressed because no-one comes in from that way and its pretty rugged country down there... Few minutes later we all remarked that Boy, that climber is really movin'! He looked like he was running up the glacier! So here's this lone climber, on a crevassed glacier in remote and rugged country, moving like the wind! We all stopped eating and watched slack-jawed, indeed impressed. Moments later as the climber got closer we recognized it for what it was - a black bear. That bear ran up that glacier, leaping - I kid you not, I saw it with my own eyes - leaping over the little crevasses, all the way to the top of the next peak over. We saw him quite clearly on the nearby subpeak turn around and look back down his line of ascent. He seemed to catch his breath then turn around and amble down the other side of the mountain.
  19. Gym climbing Saturday (VW). Went there by myself and successfully hooked up first with a group of three, then after they left I got it together with a woman that was there by herself. She and I ripped that place up for hours! Yesterday I climbed Bald Eagle Mountain on the N Fork Skykomish River. Nice ridge hike the whole way, great friends, good times! Dox and no, this was NOT my second attempt but my first! Bwa ha ha ha! No more "Double-Try" Doxey!
  20. Sheesh, I've got so many failed attempts one of my friends gave me the nickname "Double-Try" Dox. HEY! I RESEMBLE that remark! Dox
  21. Lake Clark NP and the Chigmits are stupendous. http://www.bushwhackernewsletter.org/tlikakila.htm Dox
  22. yeah Bronco, I caught the show in Seattle last week - really fun. I liked most the Alaska photos from 1954. He was so casual about it - 'here we are on Deborah, and here we are on NW Ridge of Denali, and here we are on Hunter with Harrer...' Amazing stuff. Friendly after the show too. I got him to sign my Red Fred and he was fun to talk to.
  23. No, but I've scrambled Cloudy Peak. Beautiful area.
  24. goddam this stuff is funny. way better than work - thanks!
  25. Nice photo, thanks! I happened to bump into and meet a fellow cc.'er in Stehekin last weekend - he was there with his fam. On the shuttle bus ride he must've been thinking the same thing as me and he asked the bus driver about Rainbow Falls. The driver said that it rarely freezes up, maybe every 15 years or so. He said last time it froze was eight years ago and it was climbed twice that year. Its a beautiful falls, but pretty low elevation, like 1200 feet. Anyway, if you're ever in Stehekin its worth the stop to have a look.
