  4. Can somebody help me with a translation? On page 246 of Fred's 2nd edition southern guide (Columbia to Stevens), his description of Cruel Finger includes this sentence: "From some appearances, the tower seems to grope inchoately toward expression." Is he talking about it nearly flipping a bird? Just gotta know.
  5. If you are serious about the drill, contact Divers Institute of Technology (DIT) in Ballard. They would be able to answer you question, but I'm believe suface supplied pneumatic is going to be the answer. There are some huge walls under the northshore of Lake Tahoe. The visibility isn't what it used to be, but Tahoe is definately a freshwater dive destination if you like that sort of thing (which I do.) On a dive of Crescent Lake, I found a big old 3.5 to 4 feet in diameter) log round in about 90 feet of water on about a 40-45 degree slope. My buddy and I lifted it up on edge and gave it a good "kick". It rolled down that slope, leaving a wake of mud. Last we saw of it, it was getting small in the distance and still going.

I'll preface this post by saying I don't care if you're a climbing God. You need to get your head out of your ass, you sack, and quit stabbing at (my) posts with the sarcastic, nit-picking criticism which seems to be your MO. This isn't fucking school...we don't need to be corrected or called to the office. I think you’re the whinny fuck – punk. This is the end of it for me. I don't acknowledge your ass anymore. ScottP SUX Wow, you've really got some issues... What you don't have is a sense of humor. You can be shitty all you want, but when someone posts something you perceive as negative toward you, you freak out.

You must live a shallow, unrewarding life you fucking tool. Thank God I'm not like you. Kiss my ass. FUCK YOU!!! Gee, I'm sorry Trask. I didn't intend to ruin the mood, you fucking crybaby.

After mating they fly off together and drop off the wings in a flash to start the nest. No, not ants. They were definately some sort of fly-like insect.

A few years back I approached the summit of Sperry Peak after scrambling up the south ridge. From a distance, I could see a a large swarm of what turned out to be flies. Usually present in such numbers only when utilizing a lump of offal, I was surprised at the size and lack of an adequate reason for their presence. I was not denied the summit, however...sort of a dash up while holding my breath followed by a couple of hops down toward the west ridge decent got me up and over. I've never seen anything like it before, or since.

Too true, the war in Europe seems to get all the press, but the Pacific War was incredibly brutal from all that I've read/heard. There was no "Geneva Convention" in the Pacific Theater. Thank a vet! Greg The Germans looked at their foes as soldiers also. The Japanese looked at their foes as animals. Much the way the US did during the Vietnam conflict.

  22. For a few different reasons, the climbing I am able to do is few and far between these days. When I am able to get out, which is usually by myself, I revel in the moment, not the accomplishment. I might get out to rope solo one aid pitch, or a quick scramble up a class 3 or 4 peak in months. My accomplishment isn't what I feel at the end of the day (or half day). It is what I feel while on the "gaper" climbs I do. My friend Rob was telling me about all of these cool canyons he had done in Arizona and how he was going to do the west coast trail on Vancouver Island and the Wonderland Trail around Rainier. When he was done I told him about something I have wanted to do for a while now- the Perverse Traverse at Index by myself. His response was this: "That sounds stupid." Yeah, for most people it probably does, but I think it will be pretty cool. It's all relative.
  23. Paraphrase: "We were lulled onto the route by the guidebook, a reputable guidebook, that said the route was easy." Talk about not taking responsibility for your own actions...
