  3. I can imagine a Washington Ice guide book full of pictures of running water!
  4. Sugary snow turns to cement very quickly in the Sierras. I'd bring snowshoes, my parents have a foot in their yard in Lake Tahoe, about 6,000ft. Go for it, should be a good trip. Watch for avalanches.
  5. Leashless snowshoes, the wave of the future
  6. Yuppi shoes look cool!

  8. Big 4 yesterday, it was steep and fun. Now I hurt.
  9. Had a fun time out there today. No snow to speak of. Mabye above 5,00ft or so. There are some fun steep lines to be had for sure, super pumpy. [ 11-23-2002, 07:54 PM: Message edited by: Lambone ]

But it once was. I forget when, I think back in the 80's for a season or two, heard about it from an older local. But I tink it would be great for the whole town if it was plowed to the resivoir. Then acess to all recreation in the canyon would not be limited to those with high clearence vehicles or snowmobiles...i.e. college bums with old beat up Subarus. Sure there would be more users in Hyalite. But I think there is room... Enjoy the ice, see ya in December!

RobBob, It doesn't work because glen put a coma in the end of the adress, delete the coma and it works.

I can't imagine an area a snowmobile can go that I cant access on skis, albeit at a greater disadvantage time-wise. Silver Chord is in Yellowstone. You could ski in, but it would make it a overnight trip for sure, perhaps multiple nights.
  13. freeclimb9, Not that Yellowstone is an untouched wilderness, but snowmobiles do have environmental impacts in Yellowstone, like afecting Bison migration patterns and such. And snowmobiles pollute much more than most cars. It's a touchy subject though, because the economy of towns like West Yellowstone are almost soley dependent on the Snowmoblie industry in the winter. And the Silver Chord (a sweet ice climb) can only be approached via snowmobile.

  15. at least you have a job

Tim, Ya know, I also like riding on snowmobiles, hell its fun as shit, and they get you places quick. The problem is the extent of unchecked snowmobile use within the park. Seriously, it's like a freeway in LA out there. With those kinds of numbers, the impact is just too great. It's bad for the environment, and for other park users who enjoy some peace and quiet.

  21. True, Silver Chord is just the one documented in the guide book. I'm sure many of those falls could be much farther than 70 miles from the nearest access...wait what are we arguing about again
  22. I believe they have put a cap on the number of sleds permited in the park each day. I heard about it on NPR...but i can't remember how many, or when it will go into effect. I want to say 1,000 per day, and it goes into effect next year.

Therefore, it is imperative that the Forest Service preserve the access to the ice climbs and this important group of public land users. That is not true. It would be sweet if they plowed up to the resivior though.

    Cute

good to see he's got alot of spotters
  25. In short, if this plan happens access to the canyon will be closed for anyone who does not own a snowmobile, or doesn't want to ski 10miles in from Langhor campground. That includes most locals and visitors.
