UW is closed monday, some kind of holiday or something I'd love to climb with other folks out at Big Four, but I got to make it back in time for the aid class at VW.
-
Yeah, that is what he meant by "form up." Thats incredible...last year at this time the cave was large enough to drive a few city busses into. I might just havta go check it out on monday...
-
I agree with mattp...I'm getting tiered of reading the same BS from the same four or five avatars...no need to name names, the spray is obvious, it's in every thread...will they ever grow terd of it
-
Last night a friend told me that the main cave did not form up this season... Anybody been out there? How could that enoumous cave that was there last year, not be there this year, I thought it was allways there...
-
can't help ya with that problem muffy...

Toast, the private classes, and 1 hour clinics are two different things. Clinics are only $5. From your original post I am not sure if you were suggesting that someone hold clinics, or that you were planning to give clinics, or you were looking for volounteer instructors...or what? Anyway free clinics are a great idea, it's just a matter of finding someone willing to give up their free time teaching them... [ 11-07-2002, 12:58 PM: Message edited by: Lambone ]

Yeah, eric was my best student ever, he quickly learned the basics of wall climbing! A six pack a pitch!

If it's raining in leavenworth it will definately be raining/snowing on Prussik. Could be pretty cold, wet, and misserable...if that's what you're into.

please refer to this for more info http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=000010 I double posted this by accident...damn server...

awwhhh...thanks eric, you're too kind. you should be honest and tell them that all I really do is brag about my own skills and acomplishments One thing I should clariffy, as I have allready recieved several PM's about this. It will probably start around 7pm, but i'm not 100% sure about that (I am at school right now) The cinic is just that, a clinic, or demonstration. Due to time constraints and the size of the group, we won't be able to have everyone practice lots of stuff. But I garauntee that you'll get your 5 bucks worth. I am working with the VW manager on setting up a series of hands on aid classes this winter. No details have been aranged yet. But if there is intrest, it will happen. Unfortunately it will definately cost more than $5. I'm not trying to advertise for VW here, although I realize that I basicaly am. But I just wanted to throw this out there to see if any CC.comers are into it. If I don't generate some interest, the monday night clinic won't happen. Ok, let me know if you have more questions. thanks, Matt

I like the idea of scheduling this before one of the Pub Clubs and heading down for a beer with the rest of the crew after. Just my $0.02[/QB] Just let me know and I'll be there.

Hey guys, I'm into it...but I gotta go to portland with the wife this weekend. Maybe we could just go up to Little Si or something one day. There are some good spots to set up anchors by the British Isle's I think. We could do it some rainy weekend day. We could all practice setting up anchors and toss around ideas...let m know what you think.

Hey Mike, You know, about a week or two ago I went through some of the same feelings you are going through, albeit on a much smaller scale. Erik and I went into the enchantments together, it was our first time climbing together. We ended up bagging the West Ridge of Prussik Peak which is a classic that I have been wanting to tick for several years. The trip was great, Erik is an awsome partner and friend, and it is hard to complain about a succesfull alpine climb in late October. However, I left the enchantments feeling disatisfied. We had planned (via email) to do this gnarly sounding link up over the NE But of Colchuck-Dragontail-Prussik. Prussik was to be the icing of the cake after the "real" route was over. Yet once we made it to Colchuck Lake we started to come up with all sorts of excuses not to climb the NE But. Our packs were too heavy, it'd be cold in the shade all day, we've got alot of really good pot...etc. Whatever the reason was, our original plan just wasn't happening. But I gotta wonder, was it fear? Or the uncertanty of taking on a big day wth a new partner...I don't know. We went to Prussik and had good fun, but it was'nt the same. While we warmed our toes by the fire it felt like the fire inside me was out. Perhaps I just new that it was possibly the last sunny/dry weekend of alpine climbing for the season, and that's why I was bummed. You know, when you start to make lists of routes you wished you had done over the summer. Anyway, I think it's good to acknowledge these feelings, because they are real. They lie at the heart of our motivation to climb in the first place. But when I feel dissatisfied after a trip that was all-in-all succesful, I just try to remind myself how fortunate we are to be able to do the things we do. And chalk it up for something to look forward to next season. I think what it comes down to is that with experience, a climber loses some of the sense of adventure and acomplishment that they once gained from climbing, when there were alot of "firsts"...first TR, first lead, first ice, first el cap...etc. Sure you can climb bigger walls, or taller mountains, or steeper ice, but it's still not the "first." This is why I love to teach climbing, and love to guide when the occasion arises, because it's great to be around that energy of someones first climbing experience. Would you agree? Well, good topic, I hope your next adventure is better than you ever dreamed it could be. Good luck, be safe. Matt

I could be tempted to instruct with some type of compensation other than $ ie. , perhaps we could do it before pub club sometime. The biggest question is where?
-
possibly the aid clinic, if some people sign up...
-
The seams between the plywood pannels are great for RURP's and Beaks!
-
You'd be suprised how well hooks do in the t-nut holes! But copper heads don't stick to plywood too well...
-
VW is currently running a series of clinics on lots of different stuff. check it out.
-
no, you can come for just the clinic if you'd like.

Hey all. If I can stir up some interest, I may be teaching an Aid climbing clinic at Vertical World on Monday night 11/12/02. I have taught three of four of these in the past and folks were really into it. We can talk about anything you want from the basics of standing in aiders to life on big walls...it depends on the interest of the participants. As of now the clinic is canceled, but if folks sign up soon, it may be on! If interested please PM me, or call and inquire at VW (206)-283-4497 There is a $5 charge. Also, if you are curious about the class, contact jon, or iceguy. Both have done aid classes with me before. Thanks, Matt
