  1. I was driving home from Bishop that weekend, but my folks live in Tahoe so I heard about it. My mom loves to talk about the weather. They are addicted to the weather channel... It's cool that its not another drought year.
  2. Yeah, I hear that happens in the spring... Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
  3. You'll need lots of chalk today!
  4. Traveling abroad is never a waste of money.
  5. Yeah, you never can believe the media. We roled into the Valley with 8 inches of snow, the next morning it was all gone by noon, and 60 degrees! Tahoe had a good snow year though, and I think depths up high are pretty normal.

Word, I'm with ya on the trail thing. That shits gotta go, and whoever did that needs to be slapped. They didn't even try to restore the old trail. Which would be nearly impossible anyway since it's covered in granite and fully compacted soil. I'd say avoid using this new "variation" and do what you can to erase it. I'm all about the trash clean up. A porta-potty in the lot would be sweet too. How would we go about getting that? yo e, we still on for tommorow 11:00?
  7. Yup, good call... If light and fast is what yourr after, single wall is the only way to go, or no tent at all. Double wall tents are better for basecamps and such. Cooking in the tent works great when its cold out. Just be-carefull.Have fun.
  8. Whatever... Some buddies of mine had a good time climbing in Boliva in June. They had perfect conditions, but of course it all depends on the year.
  9. I was in the Tahoe last week. The local news reporter said that the annual moisture content survey showed that it has been a wetter than average year. They got dumped on hard in November and December. Regardless, there is tons of stuff to do in the Sierras mid June. I'd suggest bringing light gaitors, light flexi crampons, and a light axe. That extra gear will tame any Sierra snowfield you might run into in June. More importantly, BRING LOTS OF BUG SPRAY! And possible head nets depending on your tolerance level. Watch your food around the bears, and apply for any permits you may need NOW. Have a blast, the Sierras kick ass.
  10. What, and you won't get wet in the double wall tent? Whatever... I'd prefer to carry a wet 5 pound single wall tent than a wet 10 pound twice as bulky double wall tent anyday. But that's just me, call me crazy. Plus, if you cook up your hot drinks in the tent you will get the gradient that you need. Then again I cant afford one, so I just dig a cave and use a bivi.
  11. If only I had my shoes with me...or at least something besides these bike shoes...
  12. I saw a flyer posted in the gym. All that I remember is that its a volounteer clean-up sometime in May. Stuff will be provided (gloves, bags, coffee, etc.). I'm not sure who is promoting it. I'll get the details and post it soon. Someone else must know about it...
  13. That sucks, the truck was cool. I think that new trail variation is bullshit... What was the point of doing that anyway? The old trail was just fine. Plus, whoever did that has obviously never built a trail before. That new short cut is going to be an eroded mess in a couple of years. Sorry to bitch, but it just pisses me off to see a bunch of vegetation all tore up for no reason. Why fix it if it ain't broken? And if you are going to fix it at least try to do a good job... Ok I'll shut up now. BTW- there will be an index cleanup in May, I forget the dates...I'm sure it's been announced already somewhere.
  14. The two pole single wall tents (like the I-tent) are super strong in high winds if you guy them out properly. They also have steep walls which helps shed snow easily. In my opinion they are the perfect winter tent if you can afford it. I also Like how you set it up from the inside, so if its storming you can just huck all your stuff in, crawl in and set it up and stay dry (sort of...) The key with a single wall tent is that it needs to be significantly warmer in the tent than outside to push the moisture through the breathable fabric. Bigger single wall tents tend not to breath as well if you only have two people in them. I like the I-tent combined with a hanging stove. That set up is usually warm enough to dry out your stuff, and push the moisture out of the tent. Double wall tents are ok also. But they are heavier and bulkier. The biggest problem I have found is that the moisture collects on the inside of the rainly and can freeze up and be hard to dry if your on the move. Then your trying to stuff up a wet frozen rainfly, and carrying around extra water, which sucks bad. Also, if snow compresses the rainfly so that it touches the inner wall you end up wet inside your tent.
  15. Are they both single wall? I spent about a week in an integral single wall once and it worked great. In the past I have heard bad comments about the SD single wall tents. Mostly that the material they used pretty much sucked ass, but that was a few years ago. good luck [ 04-08-2002: Message edited by: Lambone ]
  16. Hey whats up with the calling me a "???????"? That's just not cool man...
  17. Good call, thanks chuck. It never pays to have too much confidence in any belay device. When in doubt back it up! But I will still use my half ropes....
  18. Yeah, yeah, I'm hearin that...
  19. Hey this is Lambone's fiance. If you all have opinions about the proposed gravel mine by Exit 38, there is public meeting Monday night to hear comments on the Sand and Gravel permit that the mine applied for. If they don't get this permit, they won't be able to mine. Anyone from the public can speak. If you have opinons come!! The meeting is being held in North Bend. I don't have the address, but details will be in the Seattle PI tomorrow (the local section, I think that's section D). Thanks!
  20. JayB, Just curious, how did you clip the Ti-block to the screw? Did you use slings or draws, or did you just clip it sraight in?
  21. Usually the big football player lookin dude struggles alot more than the cute girlfriend...
  22. I don't know, I think half the fun at being at a climbing gym is hanging out meeting people, bullshitting about whatever. Lots of "those groups who are socializing" are members that come to the gym on the same nights each week. I'd say that 90% of the the people who come to the gym are super cool, and the other 10% arn't. Those are pretty good odds compared to a standard workout gym in the city.

  24. Bummer Carolyn, glad to hear you're ok. Falling Ice is no joke, and its always super important avoid that danger...but you don't need me to tell you that. It was a smart descision to rap off the route imediately. Sometimes that is a tough call to make when in shock. It's always my first instinct to tough it out and keep going. Earlier this season I caught a large chunk (or at least it felt pretty damn big) straight on top of my helmet. Probably the best place it could have hit me, but it stil came from about 200'+ above. It rattled me for sure. I'm not any more scared to ice climb now, just alot more cautious about where I choose to hang out. Just take this as a learning experience. Always trust your instincts, and if you don't feel comfortable about what your partner is doing, tell them right away!
  25. The firm that my Fiance works for is in the proscess of a major environmental impact statement for a proposed gravel mine near Exit 38. This may have something to do with that...but I'm not sure.
