  1. i meant "pose" as in "a posture or attitude usually for artistic purposes" ... that's all. really.
  2. and full of posers ...
  3. that what skis and skins are for!
  4. right on! hope to hear about your snowbound adventures this winter!
  5. sweet, thanks for all of the info! must do some further research ...
  6. wtf is up with ski resorts down south already open/opening? where's our love??? bring it! w00t w00t!!!
  7. i will probably go. the other times i've been i've had fun.
  8. no worries ... seems to go with skiing in general and i'm happy to supply more than my share. (just don't try to slip me any jack daniels! ) well, we don't have much here either ... compared to the summer anyway, but how little are you talking? (i've never been to ak!)
  9. horsies like 'em.
  10. sweet - couch surfing and some backcountry adventure! that's making it sound like a trip i should do. feb looks cheapest for airfare. haven't checked on car rental but i can't imagine those rates change much unless maybe there's a holiday involved. what's the deal with light up there? you be around in feb? okay if i bring s.o.?
  11. thought i might jump on a cheaper airfare now and check out some ak skiing. i would definitely be up for checking out some bc skiing if i went! i don't know anybody up there and can't afford to pay a guide so was just planning to keep it safe and stick to resorts. btw, never flown there ... how's $229 RT?
  12. where's best and when for those that like steeps and bowls?
  13. this really will be your best bet to save bucks and the skis really don't matter because you will learn to ski whatever you have. (really!) i use "downhill" skis in both my AT and tele setups because those are the skis i wanted. sometimes i wish i had lighter skis on my AT setup but i just ended up with some beefy fat skis whereas i could have just bought lighter (downhill or "other") skis. still beats carrying my alpine gear around!
  14. just finished "memoirs of a geisha" (arthur golden) and "icebound" (jerri nielsen). both were good, although i wasn't impressed with geisha's ending. just started "under the banner of heaven" (krakauer). also trying to read a risk management textbook, but i don't find it very exciting.
  15. can i quit my job now? seeing stevens pass getting dumped on over the weekend made me remember why i haven't had a real job the past 4 winters! keep those pics coming ... i need something nice to look at while i slave away indoors ...
  16. btw, this is also in the events forum ... (hey mods, any way to put one thread into two categories so we don't miss what others are posting when we don't realize there are twins? sorry if there was already a thread about that ...)
  17. was wondering when this be announced. no sean this year?
  18. when can i move in with you guys? i am really starting to feel homesick ...
  19. i recently scored boots on rei.com. they have a few prior year models in limited sizes that they are trying to offload. i wasn't sure if your goal was to get a new downhill setup or move into a ski mountaineering (which would mostly likely mean AT) set up. you can use your downhill stuff for some ski mountaineering but you will discover very quickly that it sucks. you can't hike in downhill boots, and they are heavy as crap to lug up a mountain ... and you'll probably want snowshoes so you're not postholing like mad. the most versatile setup you could get would be AT (naxo or fritschi freeride) bindings that you could use with AT boots and downhill boots both at and away from the resorts. they will allow you the freedom of skinning with your buddies up mountains (instead of carrying your downhill boots and wearing snowshoes) but can also handle the rigors of inbounds skiing. they are not cheap but they will be versatile. ps - i saw a pair of the regular fritschi bindings on clearance for $99 at rei downtown when i was there on wednesday night. those would probably work just as well for your level of skiing.
  20. now there's something to think about!
  21. sometimes i see this old guy on the bus who i could swear is your dad or your uncle. uncanny resemblance! but somehow ... i think your dad would dress better. (this guy looks like a flyfisherman.) what you are going to study in mongolia???
  22. not sure i'd recommend that so much ... but you could take a nice ferry ride and have brunch on the peninsula.
  23. ivar's salmon house over on lake union does a nice sunday brunch ... lotsa food, invasive northwest "native" decor, water view. it's not downtown seattle but i think your visitors would really enjoy it.
  24. nice work distel. never new you had an interest in that part of the world. who's gonna go to all those baseball games while you're gone?
