I was thinking of "Going After Cacciato" by Tim O'Brien for continued commentary/satire of warfare.

Babylon 5. Any tv program Harlan Ellison will put his name on is worthy. Much darker and more complex than the treks. However, the writing in the original series, including such SF luminaries as Robert Bloch, Theodore Sturgeon, Harlan Ellison, and David Gerrold, for all the cheesy special effects and such, is still generally better than the current crop. The same authors did (and still do) add their creative talents to the Twilight Zone and Outer Limits.

Only one criteria, as I see it: Sufficient damage to national infrastructure in that the mechanisms to operate an election have been significantly compromised.

I don't think that having a contingency plan is totally out of the question, but the context in which the administration seems to be bringing up the subject is suspect. Perhaps define affect? The 9/11 attacks drectly affected 3,400 voters, in that they perished in that attack. It also indirectly affected the psyche of NYC and the country, but not so much that the country ground to a literal halt (air travel excepted). If the attack had happened on 11/2 in a presidential election year, rather than 9/11, the country would have gone on with the elections, although, like Spain, the outcome of the voting may have been altered. The scope of a terrorist attack, even in a heavily populated metro area, would have to be truly massive to physically prevent people from reaching the polls, like something on a nuclear scale. So what is the criteria that would need to be met in order to postpone an election? After all, a presidential election was held in 1812, after war had been declared in June of that year, U.S. forces had lost a number of battles against British-Canadian forces, and british troops were on American territorial soil.

Agreed - the elections have not been postponed, even during the Civil War, the most tumultuous time in our history. Hence, something shocking, albeit minor, like a terrorist attack, should have no effect on the ability of our country to complete an election. For instance, a subway blast in New York is not going to prevent someone in Kansas from going to the polls. If using that metric, then we should postpone an election because there was a blizzard in Minnesota that kept some people out of the polls.

But fortunately they are well-equipped in the body oil category. -
Stupidity, primarily. I started front-pointing, but since Carter made it down without incident, I glissaded down on one hip in short slides, and carried the bruises for it. glad to hear that LW's lacerations weren't too bad after all, but it probably will hurt his modelling career.

Looks like I'll have to support the terrorists...

Good to here that LW is getting bolted back together fine. For a bad situation, everything came together all right - Always good to meet the other lurkers, but it could have been better circumstances.

Grivel Air Tech Evolution vs. regular Air Tech ?
glacier replied to rhyang's topic in The Gear Critic
Just picked up an Air Tech racing at 2nd ascet (on sale) - they also have the BD ravens on sale - both seem to be good ltweight general mountain axes - haven't taken mine out in the snow/scree yet, the only concern I have is that the beveled bottom spike is aluminum, vs. steel, so may not wear as well if I'm poking around dirt and talus with it. -
Met MisterE in B'ham and hit Squish. Got on routse we hadn't done before, chased shade. Was heading home last night when he called to let me know that he still had my rack, and I had his ropes. Doh!

3 laps on Snow Creek Wall? Orbit-Outer Space-Hyperspace -
I've also had a couple pair of adidas responses - they fit me well, but I have narrow feet. The Montrails tend to be wider, from the ones I've tried on. I've had a couple pair of Technicas, as well - they also fit my narrow feet. Another on the slightly wider side are Lowas, from what I've tried.
