I believe it's part of the response to the need for a "rapid deployment" military. You can move a lot of shit fast in one of those big suckers.

yep, I got a friend who recieved a ticket for that very thing. He also got a ticket for mistaking the shoulder for the HOV lane in rush hour, so mabye he's not a good example

...rapped the Beckey Route on the Special with pms and the fifi hook and a 30 meter line with a tiny stopper shoved behind the boulder above the tunnel back down and then another fifi hook special to the area where the red lichen traverse is. That is so cool

I have a golite reach jacket. I carry it when I'm out with a Schoeller top for extra rain protection. Paid like $25.00 for it on www.Sierratradingpost.com and I know Pro Mountain Sports in Seattle sells them too. Very similar material to the Marmot Precip, but much better cut and a little lighter.

How about a Schoeller Bivi?

Where is crazyjz, he's one of the better posters around here. Always says what's on his mind.

I don't like the kinder gentler Ray. I like the Ray who said he would kick my ass if I went to bed before midnight when we were planning to get up at 5am the next morning. Then we had to endure schmidt ice farts all the next day. Mean MOFO! -
The pub club thread has been in the Climber's board since way back when. It's usually pretty clear which thread it is so you can skip it if you don't want to read about it. I agreed with mattp's suggestions and still do about spraying in the TRs. A little bit is fine, and even adds to the entertainment value, but, I don't know if I've ever seen a Trip Report turn into a total spray fest unless the original poster made it apparant that they wanted it that way. I don't think things have changed much around here lately, but the spray does wear you down after a while.

Fortunatly, you youngsters around here are getting a nice history lesson today courtesy of me. Here's a classic troll incase any of you posers need an example. Unfortunatly my friend Ray was the victim of Lambone's cruel hoax and attempt at intimidation and Ray posted the email here. You see, Ray and some other really nice (and big) guys removed some recently placed bolts at Castle Rock and Lambone, being a bolt clipper, decided to get his cowardly revenge by setting up a false email and harassing those pleasant (and responsible) folks. Fortunatly, Ray returned the favor by posting nice things about Lambone several weeks later. I'll dig up one of those if I can find one. here's one here's another -
I climbed that route up to where you can either undercling the flake and go right or continue up the thin corner to the anchor directly. I only had one piece big enough for protecting the underclingy area and couldn't decide if I wanted to protect the second or myself so I backed down. But, I wondered if it goes direct or around that flake. It looks fairly stiff for 5.8 either way.

What about me!? My wife and I scrambled up Mt. Persis and took some photo's of the index traverse route hopefully for future reference. On the way down, we passed some locals with a brand new tiny Poulan (like 12" bar) chainsaw and a splitting maul clearing the blow down on the trail. They were having a blast so I didn't tell them about the level II fire restrictions limiting chainsaw use to between the hours of 1am - 1pm. Well, and becasue there was a lot of blowdowns. Then went down and drank a beer at the waterfall and washed the dust off. Nice day to be in the mountains.

I've been checking in with second ascent about every month and not found any there. I don't really want or need one badly, but, if I found one for a fair price, I'd probably buy or trade something for it.

I just inherrited an old Winchester model '97 that is reported to have the LOUDEST action there is and also has the distinction of not having a trigger disengage meaning that a person can simply hold the trigger and pump the action as fast as they can. This shotgun was also used by US Army in WWI - Korea as a "trench gun" in a modified (short) version. And it compliments my old Winchester '94 rifle so nicely.

I've been contemplating this all morning and just cant seem to bring myself to tell my wife we're moving to Oregon so I can have free beer. Sorry TG. On the other hand, I hear Beck's looking for work!

Kinda funny, when I was starting out climbing, I conisdered joining the mounties but, fortunatly I started posting here and had some very nice and polite guys show me the ropes. Looks like they aleady have the fatty in the group anyway. But look at all the fun I woulda missed. As cool as my mentors are, they never took the time to show me how to safely walk on a 2' tall rock! -
I remember playing hours of Oregon Trail on one of these old suckers in Junior High. Radio Shack is so suck.
