And the atomic weight of carbon.

You city folk don't know a hole lot about anything do ya? The "thing" on top of his car is an anchor as he is obviously just positioning his jeep to go fishing. Jeeze what kind of idiot would purposley drive into a river whithout an anchor?

I find your terminology degrading. Couldn't you send him a more proffessional note on where to find his post in the form of a PM so he doesen't feel so humiliated and I don't have to keep paper towels in my desk drawer to constantly clean up after spraying coffee all over my desk when I burst out laughing. Inconsiderate moderators, I am out of here too!!!

Haven't you seen the memo? The climber having the most fun is the one with the best thermos!
-
funny, I like to tell my partners "steal my shit and I'll burn your house down!"
-
If one were to attempt to pre heat one's thermos with MAGMA would the temperature of the MAGMA melt said thermos? how would one best remove the MAGMA if one forgot to pour out the MAGMA while still hot?
-
Here's some advice - pre heat your thermos by putting hot fluids in it and letting it sit for a few minutes. Then empty the fluids into the sink or on the ground outside. Now fill your thermos with delicous rich coffee or some savory green tea. BINGO! I'm not trying to stir the pot too much here but, does anyone know if the molecular structure of tea vs coffee lends to one retaining heat better than the other?
-
Here's another little tidbit I learned working outside all last winter. Wrap your thermos in a jacket or extra clothing and it will keep your coffee warm much longer on a cold ass day. I found my coffee cold if left outside unprotected in sub zero weather for a couple hours. I do have two models, one the run of the mill green stanley for work and one smaller (16oz?) stainless job I'll take in my pack. The smaller one won't hold heat as well probably due to just having less volume to cool down.

Yep. Hey my low voltage electricans just got here so I gotta go make fun of them to compensate for my insecurity at only being 5'2" and having failed highschool chemistry.

Shot a whitetail with my bow, bought a tractor, built a road and garage, got a new job making better money, caught some fish in my neighbor's pond and spent all of one day climbing - some undeveloped limestone crag near my home. I did reorganize my climbing gear though!

Blake is making a joke about JoshK's comments on Jens's and Loren's recent J-berg ascent. It was good fodder during their slide show, and everybody had a good over it. eh, yeah, I guess I missed that. I'll try to keep up on the TR's now that I have a semi-desk job again. I'm gonna have to put in overtime to catch up though.

Yeah, penalty slack for hanging on the rope while shooting. Blake, don't worry yourself too much about Jens, everybody has their own comfort level of risk.

You sure have a lot of posts.

Salomon Pro ice vs Koflach Degree Advice needed!!
Bronco replied to DarknessPhotography's topic in The Gear Critic
I'd strongly recomend you rent some POS Degree's from REI before you purchase them. I did and ended up buying some insulated leather Scarpa's for cold weather climbing and slogging. I use a vapor barrier over my liner sock to help keep my insulation dry and it's worked well for me on several volcano climbs as well as cold weather ice climbing. Much more versatility than in a plastic. -
I've recently invented a lightweight shelter out of nylon and aluminum poles. It sheds dew easily and will keep your sleeping bag dry. Please look for my invention, the "tent", in finer outdoor supply stores near you. I crack myself up sometimes!

One time at band camp I traded a slightly chewed ear of corn for an empty PBR can.

Good advice, great actually. I think the stock market holds more "short term" potential than the Seattle RE market. (love that guy!!)

Comments on race: Being the first race organized and held in this venue, the organizers overlooked how long it would take for us to get to the top of the uppermost lift at the resort. They allowed 50 minutes to climb approximatly 2,000'. All but one of the participants in the rec class were DQ'd because we weren't above the lift when down hill traffic started. Most of us were close, but would have needed another 15 minutes for sure. Because of the low turnout, everyone recieved a door prize. All of the advice above was right on, only thing to add is that some of the participants were wearing goretex because of the stormy weather and they seemed to "bonk" faster than those of us who dressed lighter. Probably didn't help that I walked around the starting area stating "it sure is cold out here! and "I pitty the fool who isn't wearing his storm gear, it's FULL ON!" More tidbits: Bike helmets are much lighter and better vented than ski helmets, Don't carry anything that isn't required, (it is a race after all) That's all.

Hola. I'm registered for my first ski race (rec division of course) and wonder if you had any advice on clothing gear or whatever. Some info on the course is a 2000' of skinning, 500' of steep bootpack, mostly level touring along a ridge top and 2500' of skiing to the finish. More detail at www.bridgerbowl.com under the "skin to win" event. Any help is appreciated, I just don't want to embarass myself and have fun. Maybe I'll settle for just having fun.
