Thread resurection eh? Some other advice after five years of doing that race at Bridger - Lightweight softshell pants, poly-pro top, windstopper fleece gloves and a light windshirt to put on once the climb was done. If feeling cold, go faster (work harder). Shouldering skis and running for shorter sections instead of skinning was way faster. Anyone know what the story is with the "Battle of the Mountain" at Stevens? Any course info?

Did the gentleman in the video give the gear back???

Hi Mark: That's a sweet set-up and you probably get better fuel mileage with the low profile than if you had a 6" tall Yakima delta force basket riding up there. Maybe a metallurgist can give a better explanation but I generally steer clear of stainless steel fasteners for this type of application as I've accidentally over-torqued them and experienced a complete failure of the fastener. Mabye go with a zinc coated steel or chromoly,(they are probably less expensive as well). YMMV

Keep it up.

Kicking steps up a 50 degree slope in snowshoes? Does that count as a FSA?

I just started wearing contacts and wonder why you state they're impossible. Too cold? Too much wind/debris blowing around? I was riding a sled around in -22f last week and didn't have a problem with my contacts. Of course I had goggles on.

Based on the tons of snow the Tetons have been getting burried under this season, June is too early. We climbed the Exum in late June of 2008 and the upper part of the route was still under a lot of snow.

According to the article linked by Hugh (great article btw): "the average burial depth in the US is 1.16 meters (according to CAIC data). Below two meters, the chances of survival are extremely low: only 11 of the 126 people (9%) have survived burials deeper than 2 meters." That being said, I have three probes of various length and weight and will select based on the terrain and conditions I'm traveling in.

It may be helpful to post your location, transportation and gear situation. Sounds like you have a good foundation and perspective. Good luck!

Commuter Bike: Hybrid vs Cyclocross vs Touring?
Bronco replied to Bronco's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
One year of bike commuting - 1500 miles (shooting for 2000 this year) 200 days of riding $850 saved from not driving $850 spent on bike & gear (maybe next year I can save some) 8 lb lighter 0 close calls with automobiles That awful smell was traced to the padding in my helmet -

Minor Arthritis of my Right Knee
Bronco replied to Ryan Canfield's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Gene is on the right track. What does your current training program consist of? My knees were achy yesterday, I blame the weather. -
This is an all too common and perplexing attitude. The only cyclists I've encountered who probably don't pay more than their fair share of taxes are the dorks riding on the sidewalks. Don't tax me just because I don't look good in spandex.

This makes a lot of sense to me considering recent experiences at various financial institutioins. Enjoy!

Commuter Bike: Hybrid vs Cyclocross vs Touring?
Bronco replied to Bronco's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Do NOT do this. You will immediately be recognized as a weakling by other riders. Or worse yet, a road weenie. Does this mean I shoud get some real riding shorts and stop wearing my wife's spanks? -

I did get the 2nd version of the Candy and am happy after putting on about 500 miles. Only fell over twice the first two weeks for forgetting to unclip. Chilly ride this morning. Might have to pick up some shoe covers things. -

Why don't you come skin/ski with me this winter and find out? -

yup It does seem like the dude in the video has uncommonly good dexterity and balance. -
This looks a little easier than the methods I've incorporated. You can skip the first 1:00 (not sure how to imbed the video)

What you would do is remove the one or two studs directly in front of the panel and then double up the studs adjacent to the new opening. Then put in doubled horizontal studs about 6' up the wall bridging the doubled vertical studs to add structural integrity. Cut the plywood panel to span the opening (should be 48" wide assuming you have framed on 16" centers and removed only the two studs directly in front of the panel. The panel will be easily removable if you use screws (with washers) to attach it to the studs. As an alternative to DPS’s suggestion, you might consider just creating an alcove (cave?) that allows access and visibility to your breaker panel. It would suck for something to happen at your home if you’re not there and whoever needs to cut power to a circuit not be able to locate your panel. Just my .02 cents.
