  1. This will probably be old news by tomorrow: "The roots of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal lie not in the criminal inclinations of a few Army reservists but in a decision, approved last year by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, to expand a highly secret operation, which had been focussed on the hunt for Al Qaeda, to the interrogation of prisoners in Iraq. Rumsfeld’s decision embittered the American intelligence community, damaged the effectiveness of élite combat units, and hurt America’s prospects in the war on terror. ..." read the whole article (New Yorker). Rumsfeld may be taking the big dive, or may be on his way to national (cult) hero status a la Ollie North. One of the two.

I link stuff already on cc.com from my webpage sometimes, but I never upload a picture to cc.com myself in order to link it, just to save space on my page. That would be very impolite!
  3. Turning off Zone-Alarm did it for me too. Yea! I can see these guys again!
  4. The more popular climbs (the ones that get more feedback perhaps ?) have much softer approach times than do the more obscure ones. For me, I'm doing well if I am close to the Beckey time on the less traveled routes and beat the time by a factor of two on the more popular ones.
  5. Thank you Pax! Your photo of me will please my sponsors. Tallest one on the left is Chair. Snoqualmie is very prominent but out of the frame to the left (you could see the slot/enigma couloir from up there). With respect to j_b's comment: there is a telltale sign that people do often rap off of the backside. With respect to Ken4d's comment: yup. Oh and one more thing, I think there is a GaperJeff or Jeffrey that posts here that is not the Jeff in that photo.
  6. Fukin' A Josh K Your eloquent words have convinced me to vote against Bush! For the good of the country.
  7. could it be a firewall issue?
  8. Same thing's happening with me too. Only on my home computer (XP), not on "other" computer (2000)
  9. Awesome handle "Elcapinyoazz"!
  10. I made it too easy on you. You didn't even present any facts!
  11. If that means what I think it does, yes. It is difficult with Kerry, but failing that in almost all cases I can easily fall back to "he's way less evil than the other guy"! Actually, I'm not really worried about the outsourcing thing at all. Trying to prohibit it is stupid and impractical IMHO. It's like Star Wars or something. Kerry is not a total ignoramus and if he gets elected, I am confident that he will not destroy himself trying to vanquish outsourcing. If he wants to hold his cards a little closer to his vest to not turn off the the ignorami who think we can kill outsourcing with an M-16 or a Nucular Bomb, that's fine with me.
  12. Ummm...Josh...he's been president of the United States for almost 4 years now. I think he's established a record we can use to evaluate him.
  13. Do you think the "perpetrators" have a big pool of victims that they get to sort through and choose only the juciest to slaughter? I don't. If being Jewish was a reason for those guys to kill him particularly, I would think that their statement in the video would have emphasized this bit of information. I think they just hate Americans, period. And of course, freedom. They hate freedom. Can't stand freedom.
  14. Gotterdamerung is smart enough to see through this transparent non-issue, and, though he hates Kerry, would rather not have to resort to lies and deceptions to smear him? Maybe.
  15. Isn't that perception mainly fueled by the fact that his position cannot be labled YES or NO? (and the republican lie machine ) My understanding of the issue is that he does not want to make any laws prohibiting outsourcing, but he does want to change tax laws that currently create incentives for outsourcing. Sounds like a great position to me! More money in the coffers to fund our imperialism , more of it coming from those who make money by sending US dollars out of the country.
  16. Thank you for responding! Now we can discuss this. I think I basically spoke to your example already, but here is the synopsis. Your point #2 is far from proven. I posit that if Kerry were to have shown up, that one of those in Will's list would have voted the other way, to keep the benefits tanked. You could argue that Kerry should fly all around the country to try to counter every Repub dirty trick, but I think that might be a little impractical. Kerry here is banking on the intelligence of the voters to see through this transparent ploy. Also, is that all you got? No more examples of Kerry flip-waffling? Seems like you've been making that claim for longer than a day. Or are you like those lying politicians, who figure that if you just say something enough it will eventually be accepted truth?
  17. Just as I thought. You have no idea why, but you like the sound of the Bush-Cheney ads. Anyone else out there, with an independently formed opinion, like to please give us an example of a Kerry flip-flop? And Cracked, if you can't see through the "issue" that Fairweather brought up, you're not trying very hard. You probably think Kerry voted against the bill that provided for body armor for our troops because hes against body armor for our troops.
  18. Agreed I asked that of Cracked a while back, and I apologize if I missed it, but I didn't see a reply. Please don't answer with "He's a flip flopper who waffles", puhleeze. We can read that on the Bush-Cheney website. I just asked for one specific instance where you disagree with him, or perhaps one concrete reference for what he flip-flopped on, for example.
  19. "I've stopped reading the newspapers," A perfect soundbite symbolizing this administration's willingness and seeming pride in ignoring facts, figures, experts, and critics that don't agree with their agenda, and just plowing on blindly ahead. Bring 'em on!
  20. me too. I've only used it once or twice but it seemed to work OK. Adding a chest strap is definitely something I figured I had to do after one trip. It's perfect for a summit pack since it's so damn light and folds up into nothing. It'll work for a dayclimb pack, but with its minimal accoutrements, you sacrifice a lot of bells and whistles that would be nice for those dayclimbs when you're not worried about 10 extra ounces.
  21. Hey! Looks like RC.com is getting a little more interesting.
  22. You obviously haven't been of voting age very long. Choice between two sucky candidates has basically been SOP for as long as I've been voting.
  23. You got that right Peter, but if you're trying to say there is "blind" hatred for Bush, you certainly don't understand the issues.
  24. How transparent is this? Fairweather (and Foxnews coincidentally) getting all upset at Kerry because he helped kill a program that they disapprove of , or more accurately, Kerry wasn't there to make one more republican actually take a stand against jobless benefits? Total blind hatred for the challenger to your flawed man in office. That's going to be his only possible saviour, dirty tricks against his opponent. I'd like to see FoxNews publish a list of the republicans who went against their president to vote for the jobless benefits.
