I wish I had a minivan like that. It would be very useful (i.e. not completely unnecessary) for all the jobs involved in carting kids and their logistical support about. I also wish I could afford a big 'ol honkin' SUV and the gas it would guzzle. I would be using it exactly because it is HUGE and the m*v is very large. When one of you climbing hippie types are driving down the road out of your mind on whatever drug is fashionable with the gen-X'rs nowadays, and you run the red light cause you're damn thumpin' stereo is so loud it's jigglin' your eyeballs, and you run into my big honkin' SUV, it'll be just like some distant war in Uganda. My kids would be unharmed by your stupidity. It would be inconsequential. I would just call Erik and his fellow republicans and get my fellow rate-payers to pay for buffing out the scratch. I wish. The important thing to think about is the varying perspectives seen here. Iceguy is annoyed that this dog is being playful (I would be annoyed too). But keep in mind, the dog owner loves that shit. The dog owner probably thinks he/she is just spreading the love around. The dog owner probably also thinks you are intolerant dickhead if you get annoyed by a wuvwy widdle poochy woochy giving you kisses. It is a no-win situation. The only solution is the final solution. The dog owners will eventually get over it. Maybe they can get cats.

We did the East Ledges traverse (I think) back in '99 when attempting the North Ridge route. It was getting late and I was due home so we bailed on the N. Ridge and traversed those ledges to get out. It didn't seem too bad, but maybe that was because we had already done umpteen simulclimb pitches earlier in the day so we were "acclimatized". Don't know anything about the raps though. Oh, and finding the correct notch was not a problem. It's just before (N) of the "solitary gendarme". Can't miss it .

Maybe I AM wrong about which couloir. It always confuses me to hear people whining about that thing. Next to a full-on glissade with a big runout, the thing I descended was the most cush descent one could hope for. Snow part of the way, then lots of sand for easy, non-jarring, knee-saving plunge stepping. Loren, I think I was wrong about that descent. To get to the Cascadian Couloir, go down the trail about a mile more until you see a big brush field that heads up to a slabby headwall. Just start crashing through the brush uphill. Just as you think that that can't possibly be the correct way, the brush will part and there will be a nice trail. Really.

The couloir/gully/valley that runs directly under the West face of Sherpa is one couloir/gully/valley to the East of the Cascadian. When I went up the thing I described, I was not under the West Face of Sherpa. I had to traverse over to Sherpa.

The couple times I've come down the Cascadian Couloir, I've ended up on a trail that meets the Ingalls Creek trail about a 1/4 mile East (downstream) of the Long's Pass trail. The CC trail I'm thinking of leaves the Ingall's Creek trail at the edge of a forested section, just West of a meadow. The trail goes North of a tree or two and breaks out into the meadow on an uphill, Eastwards traverse. Also, it leaves the ICT just East (?) of a fairly good sized stream (been running every time I've been there). Come to think of it, I also found this trail once from the base, and went up it on my way to Sherpa. [ 07-30-2002, 10:30 AM: Message edited by: chucK ]

Mt. Pugh Green Mtn. Sulphur Mtn. Vesper Peak Snoqualmie Mtn. (unmarked trail leaving from Alpental parking lot, on right just South of Snow Lake TH)

They do the same thing in NCNP. Makes it tougher for the normal guy to get a permit, but easier for the guide services, as they can just send a lackey up there a day early. Don't know if that makes sense in MRNP though, since they only allow a couple of official guide services who probably get all the permits they want.

... speaking of "bang" for our buck, isn't that how the forest circus can legally and quickly remove major obstacles, blowin' shit up? That is, dynamite? By the way, I doubt all this avalanche debris across the trails is a plot by the feds. I think it has something to do with this last winter . That being said, it did appear that the mid fork road was pretty bad this last weekend. There were even a few junker cars that appeared to have been dug out of the woods and left right near the road. Must be a damn ploy by those steenkin' feds and eco nuts to convince everybody we need close down the Mid Fork Road .
