glen Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 You don't think his comments are designed to encourage, "Peace and love on earth?" Â I'd be glad to see him out of politics if he is promoting the idea of segregation as sound policy, even if it is just to make a retiring friend (Strom) feel good. I'm sure there must have been something else good to say about him at the retirement. If not, maybe that's a problem too. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 Glen - Â He in no way endorsed segregation in his comments. The Dixiecrat party under whose banner Strom ran in '48 opposed the FEDERAL integration legislation on the basis of constitutionality. In that, in my opinion, they were correct. The Constitution clearly enumerated the powers given to the Federal Government and stated that all else was the purview of the states. Thus, segregation should have been dealt with in each state. Â Granted, Trent fucked up and shouldn't have said what he did (especially in this PC climate). However, I think he did more damage to himself within his own party when he went and rolled over like a lap dog on BET. He doesn't deserve to be Senate Majority Leader, but only the people of his state can decide if he deserves to represent them in Congress. Quote
chucK Posted December 20, 2002 Author Posted December 20, 2002 I think it is funny that the republicans are being such PC pantywaists Quote
Greg_W Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 They're all politicians thirsting for power, chuck. How do you mean exactly? Quote
COL._Von_Spanker Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 It looks like he's wearing a really large sombrero in that photo. Quote
chucK Posted December 21, 2002 Author Posted December 21, 2002 Yeah Col, cool photo huh. Â Greg, I just find it funny because conservatives in general seem to be so proud of NOT being overly concernced about PC'ness. But when Sen. Lott makes a slip of the tongue that was twisted all out of proportion, all the repubs are jumping over themselves to "sacrifice" Lott for the good of the party. I guess you're right. It's not really pantywaistness. Underneath it all it's really merciless power grab but to do so they must portray themselves as PC pantywaists. That's what's so funny. Quote
allthumbs Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 I'm a Republican and I'm going to say this about the Lott situation. I don't have a shred of evidence to support this...just a gut feeling...and that feeling is that Lott is and always will be a raciest. I'm pleased that he stepped down and personally I feel he should leave politics totally. Sorry Greg, but that's my feeling on this one. Â Now on the other hand, did y'all hear what that dumbass Democratic Sen. Patty Murray said about Saddam? She's another Jane Fonda. Quote
iain Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 How 'bout Liberman for prez...one look at that guy is reason enough to invade...he may be a smart guy and all, but the Democratic party has some work to do...agree folks? Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 it's not a sombrero; it's a halo. may he rest in peace ... Quote
allthumbs Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 that fucker looks like a comedian no foreign country would ever take him serious Quote
ChrisT Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Now on the other hand, did y'all hear what that dumbass Democratic Sen. Patty Murray said about Saddam? She's another Jane Fonda. Â Why is it that we never hear anything from our Senators? Because we have two freshman senators trying to learn the ropes? Or do I live to far south too count? (Hear more about Ron Wyden than anyone else!) Quote
allthumbs Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Chris, if you want I can turn you onto a downloadable, internet program that tells you how your local politicians vote on every issue. Quote
ChrisT Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 well yes I would be interested...I don't hear squat about Maria or Patty - I guess I should stop reading the Boregonian... Quote
allthumbs Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 For starters quit watching network news. That shit is all left wing crap. Watch Fox News for an unslanted view of what's happening in the world. I'll find the shit and PM it to you. For local news it's a toughie. I tend to watch that PNW channel that covers WA, OR, and Idaho. Quote
sk Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 either GregW or trask tuned me on to Fox news... It is realy much better then any network and is on alll the time so I don't have to kill a kid to watch the news in peace Quote
ChrisT Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Just saw the local news...I guess Murray stuck her tennis shoe in her mouth Quote
ChrisT Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Now on the other hand, did y'all hear what that dumbass Democratic Sen. Patty Murray said about Saddam? She's another Jane Fonda. Â I think she came across more as an Osama Bin Laden lover... Quote
PullinFool Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Does anyone think that this will raise even a little ire in Ol' Miss? Those Dixiecrats are a pretty tight bunch! Quote
allthumbs Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Murray and McDermott need to resign. They're embarrassments to our state. Quote
PullinFool Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 Indeed. Foot-in-mouth disease has definitely jumped species... Quote
