WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Index multi car break-in,

Recommended Posts

Last thursday (26th) most of the cars in the lower lot got broken into somewhere about 11AM. Maybe 7 or 8 cars all with rear windows smashed.

I reckon whoever it was smashed all the windows as the train went through. However, I think they were disturbed before they could rob all the cars. They hadn't gone into my car, and many others also. There was a fella who'd lost his passport & wallet, and he was rightly steamed.

I think I'm gonna park in town & walk next time.

I wish the crackheads would agree to not bust windows out if we all promise to leave our cars unlocked

In europe I would regularly leave my car unlocked and glove box open so crooks could see there was nothing in my car. I guess I will need to start doing this over here. Or the WCC could hire a parking lot guard, whichever is easier.

For what it's worth, I had all doors unlocked, trunk unlocked, and a visibly empty car. They still smashed in my back window that day.

(and took nothing, I don't think they even went inside)

Apart from looking out for one another and intentionally striking up conversations with suspicious-looking meth heads (+1 for profiling) I'm not sure there is really a strategy that works here.

Sounds like a climber community sting/beat down is the only solution. Once a few tweakers get a good ass whoop'n and/or arrested by the local craggers, maybe they will move on to easier targets???

It's been my experience that you do not want to mess with those who have less to lose than you.

It's easy to talk tough, but coming face to face with a tweaker in full tweak is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. I don't envy the police.

indeed, fucking w/ tweakers is like fucking w/ black-berry bushes - dangerous and fairly unlikely to result in the damn problem going away anyway :)

Would tweakers be dissuaded by a comprehensive battery of surveillance cameras? They need not be real cameras.

I wonder how long it would be before the cameras were stolen? It would be kind of a fun experiment.

They probably follow this website like the dude up at Static Point in the Monroe area (and enjoy the publicity), not much helps - even police reports.

Maybe we could hire a pair of guys to stand guard with shotguns, pretending to be backwoods hunters ( notice I said pair - need a witness with camera). The notion of breaking all the windows when the train passes is probably correct - and then go through as many as you can. F---ing Dirt Bags. That sucks.

I wonder if parking in town at the school and walking down the tracks would prevent the break ins. I know that there is not enough parking to make this a viable option for everyone, but maybe is a solution for low traffic days.

I haven't been out to index in a few years but I wonder about thinning (removing?) the vegetation from between the road and parking lot to increase visibility. Anyone know if the state would allow such work to be conducted by volunteers?

Parking at the school has worked for me the last couple times I was there - but you are right parking is limited and it was midweek.
