COL._Von_Spanker Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I was thinking about heading up willis wall this weekend, anyone been on it recently? Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 soloed it 5 hr 13 min car to car see www.speedchestbeating.com Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 willis wall sounds cool. if you're up for company i wouldn't mind simul-soloing it with you. that or we could try for the second ascent of thermogenesis. Quote
allthumbs Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 No brave soul has attempted any of Willis Wall’s five known routes in at least 10 years, maybe longer, Mount Rainier rangers say. While climbers on other parts of the mountain cope with crowds and bottlenecks, Willis Wall’s reputation as the most dangerous place on the peak has helped the forbidding face stand alone and aloof. Highlander Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Be sure to take your ski's as well, so you can get the first ski decent. Quote
Skisports Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 There were two guys there were going to ski thermogenisis last year they never could get the right conditions so they never did it. they say they are going to try it this comming year Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 There were two guys there were going to ski thermogenisis last year they never could get the right conditions so they never did it. Â yeah, sure. uh-huh. Quote
Skisports Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Just because it isn't posted on CC dosen't mean it never happend, besides Someone who has the skills to ski thermogenisis wouldn't want to post because people like you would never beleive him even if they did do it. You would call it chestbeating Quote
CascadeClimber Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I predict it will be skied in the next 18 months. Â But I could be wrong. Quote

mattp Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I wouldn't be surprised to see someone ski Thermogenesis. After all, I don't think it is any steeper than the North Face of Mount Robson, and probably not all that much steeper than Liberty Ridge or Mowich Face. The only problem with it is that it lies beneath a calving icecliff. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Ski Thermogenesis? Oh come on. Could it be done? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe. It might be done yet for all I know. Who knows, really. I mean does anyone know? I don't. I predict that it MIGHT be skid skiid skied skeed skead oh in 18 or so, maybe 19, but in 6, NEVER! 1? Maybe....But then again, who knows. Is there someone out there comtemplating this? I'd like to get some names and numbers, please. Thermogenesis? Are we talking about teh same thing here? I predict 14. 14 is the number. Congratulations! Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 i don't care if people chestbeat. you're taking my posts way too seriously. and i certainly don't get everything i know from this board. and just because you don't think someone will believe you doesn't mean you shouldn't tell 'em anyway. geez!!! Skisports Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 There were a few of us looking at skiing it but there are a few hourglass sections that might require raps... Still that is a long time hanging under that bowling aley. I am confendent that is will be skied this comming year... I may not be on the route but I will be certainly taking pictures. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I wouldn't be surprised to see someone ski Thermogenesis. Â what about snowboard? the colonel doesn't "ski". Quote
JoshK Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 You guys are all a bunch of cowards. Â I plan on soloing thermogenisis very soon and skiing it. I am going to go supar-lite #1 alpine style. I will not be taking crampons or ice tools as I consider that aid, and I will only do the most extreme #1 style supar alpine climbs. I will however, be taking a stick of dynamite which I will shove up the proverbial ass of that ice cliff as I yell profanities and haul ass back down the gully. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Here's the beta. Bring a big set of nuts. Quote

eric8 Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Col, got to ask have you look at the weather this weekend? or out a window? Quote
markws Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 There are more than a few people who have been eyeing that line for the past few years. They've just been a little quieter about it than some others. It's definitely skiable given the right conditions and timing. If you've seen what regularly gets skied in the Chamonix valley you know it's possible. But, it's a lot more effort to just "check out" the status of Thermogenesis than it is the N Face of the Midi or the Couturier and that is why it's so much harder to pull off. In my opinion, a great deal of patience and persistance is needed. It would be cool if somebody from the NW skied it instead of a Euro rolling in and poaching it. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 I remember reading about Jim Wickwire's ascent in his book, "Addicted to Danger" and he made it sound like no big deal (relatively speaking). Then I went and read the route description!! Hard core and low-key; definitely impressive. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 Talk the talk but to walk the walk is different. I dont think it's unbelievable to ski but lots of people appear outwardly more ambitious when they aren't standing in front of something like that. Quote
Highlander Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 (edited) Its totally doable. Just several objective dangers to deal with. Question is, do you feel lucky? And finding it in the right conditions. Edited December 12, 2002 by Highlander Quote
