B Deleted_Beck Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 what non-climbing pants do you rock climb in? really not excited to drop $80 on a pair of pants, when i'm sure there are other durable, gusseted pants out there, for or not for climbing, for probably half or less than half of that. thanks Quote
DPS Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Carharts. Cheaper than climbing pants, pretty durable plus they give you the 'I'm not trying hard to look cool' vibe. Quote
max Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 My standard is a pair of St. Johns Bay Classic khakiis. Loose enough fit, $40, and moderately durable. Of course, they get wet when it rains.... My buddy picked up a pair of wool slacks at VV and seems to do alright. The Carharts are too tight in the crotch for me. Quote
Pete_H Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Dickies are my preferred pant for any non-alpine rock. Being partially made of polyester they're somewhat stretchy and shed water a bit. They're lightweight too, durable, and more comfortable than carharts. And they cost like $30. Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I don't know if they are "non-climbing" pants but Gramicci's can be found on SierraTradingPost.com for $20-30 pretty frequently in a variety of styles and materials. Most have gusseted crotches and pretty good movement. I've had good luck with them. Quote
tanstaafl Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I go to Goodwill and find something for $5. They generally don't last more than six months, but for $5 they don't have to. At times I've found actual gusseted climbing pants there for ~$8. Quote
goofey8grape Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I use carharts as well. And for the price, they are pretty darn durable. Quote
Plaidman Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) Andy and Bax has some way cool wool pants that I like. They even have the mountaineering knickers if you want for about $30 Andy and Bax website Edited January 20, 2011 by Plaidman Quote
JeffreyR Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I usually wait for a sale at REI or some other outdoor store and get zip off quick dry hiking pants. I rarely spend more than $40. Quote
