fultonville Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hey Buddy? Let's get this bad boy...this is a fence we can both get over. Hell, if need be we can bring Joe and have him rope gun the bad bay...;-) Quote
Dane Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 You're killing me....came in the window last time...figure going out it this time would certainly jump start the process Snow in L-town? Quote
fultonville Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hell yes I'd go out the window... No snow in L-town any more. Freakin' cold though. Especially while riding motorcycles in the freezing fog at night. Worse than a hanging belay in winter. You get the barfs without swinging tools or placing pro. Crazy Quote
rocketparrotlet Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Is the ice in Leavenworth any good right now? Quote
RokIzGud Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Im on part 4/8 right now. Its pretty good quality in HQ. Quote
KirkW Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Thanks for posting this. Read the book a couple years ago. Good read like most of his other stuff. This gave me something to watch as I sat around this morning sharpening my pons and tools and trying to explain to my girlfriend why we do this crazy shit. to Kurtz and all those that paved the way for me. Happy holidays guys. Be safe out there. With or without your beacon. Quote
Dane Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 L-town is London for this conversaion...but drove over the pass yesterday (Snoqualmie) and stuff was frozen. Bet leavenworth is rocking right now. We should be there! Part of my explain' to the wife is...a beacon I would never let my wife watch that movie!!! You nuts? Merry Christmas to all! Quote
sobo Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Just logged on and saw this. Nice find, Dane. Sat and logged off the clock and watched all 8 installments. Excellent! Will have to go buy the book now. Merry Christmas, all, and to all a good night! Quote
rocketparrotlet Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 That movie was enthralling. It convinced me to buy "The White Spider" by Heinrich Harrer, an account of the first successful ascent of the Eiger Nordwand (but you all probably know that). I hope to climb the North Face someday, to repeat that route. But that won't be for a long time. For now, I am looking forward to Leavenworth ice if I happen to go. -Mark Quote
rocky_joe Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 just watched all 8 parts. great piece. good find dane. Quote
denalidave Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Nice find. Working my way through it. Quote
pup_on_the_mountain Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I would never let my wife watch that movie!!! You nuts? I almost finished it, but my wife walked in at the 8th part right as Kurz was cutting the rope. Didn't go all that well with her... Nice find, but as Dane said, better not let your girl watch it. Quote
wayne Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Ha! Hilarious. That was a great find. Makes our game look candy! Quote

Rafael_H Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Yup. So much of what's done now is just sport climbing in comparison, with "what matters" having been switched from guts to money... Awesome! Thank you, Dane, more than you know. Merry Christmas to everyone!!! Quote
ARob Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I just finished "Starlight and Storm" by Gaston Rebuffaut. He was the first to climb the six major north faces in the alps, including The Eiger. It's a fascinating account of pioneering mountaineering, with great literary passages reminding me of Muir. If you like "The Beckoning Silence" then check out "Starlight and "Storm." It's a quick read too. Quote
Dane Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 A look at the modern version of "Starlight Storm"? Although Gaston's description of the Eiger is gripping in my mind and a must read. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWCljD5_Rew&feature=related Simpson's Youtube video of "Touching the Void" is a must see as well. Ishmael Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Thanks Dane for the post. It killed a good part of the evening but was well worth it. I was impressed with the sound. I watched the first couple just with my computer speakers but then plugged in my shure ear buds and it was great. Esp with all the wind ect. Quote
chirp Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 That city life has spoiled you. You ain't a pansy, are you? Stop this death trap, and I'll show you. What's so funny? I was thinking of the last time we climbed. You had to haul my ass down that mountain. That's liable to turn out to be one of my bigger mistakes. Quote
mike1 Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Thanks for posting Dane. I have to re-read the White Spider now! Hopefully they release a DVD in America someday. Quote
eplanajr Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks for sharing. I just watched all 8 videos. I will not NOT let the fiancee see this Quote
