tvashtarkatena Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 His thesis in a nutshell: socialism leads to Soviet style communism. Â Yeah, after 50 years of Euro socialism, Soviet style communism's breakin' out all over the place.... Â Meanwhile, back in the Land of Freedom...and Gitmo. Quote
Pete_H Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 One of the few things I remember from college was that communism usually pops up in societies fertile for extremist paradigms to take over - with decayed social structures, rampant disparities between rich and poor, and generally a bunch of really pissed off citizenry. Â Seems to me that societies governed with euro-style socialism tend to be the opposite of that. Quote

Yeah, after 50 years of Euro socialism, Soviet style communism's breakin' out all over the place....  Meanwhile, back in the Land of Freedom...and Gitmo.  True enough, but I don't even want to go there. I am neither a marxist, nor am I a capitalist. It doesn't mean I don't have an ideology (social justice, freedom, ...) but it is much more fundamental than any ism. These right-wing morons and their McCarthyist ancestors have contaminated political discourse by demonizing anyone to the left of Joe Lieberman. Fuck'em. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Completely irrelevant. Nobody here has been arguing for anything marxist despite the constant red-baiting; however, plenty of knuckle-draggers have argued for perpetual war as if they hadn't learned anything from Vietnam.  Bullshit. Whether you accept the moniker or not your socio-political views are indistinguishable from those of any rabid Marxist  Quote

You are a blithering idiot with basically nothing to say, KKK. Quote

Peter_Puget Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Getting back to JFK...think of the Cuban Missle Crisis...to a large extent the result of many blunders by JFK which left the Russian (commies) thinking him a wimp. Now read:  this  and then  this  yep every thread is a variation on back to the future....same plot different crisis to follow.... Edited December 24, 2009 by Peter_Puget Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Wasn't there a another country called...let me see...it's in the Caribbean...Cuba, yeah, Cuba involved? The one U.S. backed forces tried to invade? Creating, oh, just a small incentive to emplace Russian missiles for self defense? Â But it all has to do with wimpiness, right? Â Go Palin style or go home. Â Â Quote
Peter_Puget Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 half assed invasion.........no shock and awe that's for sure. Quote
j_b Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Obama was a joke in Copenhagen because 5% reduction of US emissions in 2020 relative to 1990 is a joke. China may be angling its way toward avoiding more stringent reductions in the future but it couldn't do so without the lack of political will in the US to address climate change. People like PP are responsible for China getting away with being the major CO2 emitter today and its not being constrained to emission reductions. Quote
Bug Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Shock and awe? You mean Bush style like Afgahnistan where we gave Osama a little time to rest so he could move his dialysis machinery into Pakistan? Pretty selective memory methinks. Â You haven't been sniffing Tvash's butt hairs have you? Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Cuba's capitol city and others were bombed repeatedly by US trained forces before Bay of Pigs. That was followed by an amphibious invasion force. All trained and supplied by the U.S. Of course, Cuba was silly to treat that as a serious threat. We certainly wouldn't have. Â Castro personally commanded the forces that quickly kicked the shit out of the U.S. backed campaign. He would go on to play a decisive role in kicking our proxy ass in Angola, a victory which led to that country gaining its independence. It was the beginning of a string of U.S. defeats that has lasted right up to the present. Â We should think about staying home more. Especially now that we can no longer afford to vacation abroad. Â But, hey, we got Noriega Quote
j_b Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Fighting national revolutions as a foreign power is a sure way to a losing record of interventions over the long term, but hey, we kicked Aristide's scrawny ass into exile. Quote

Peter_Puget Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 And on a sad note look at how J_B and his ilk have resorted several times to personal attacks of various degrees......And TVash you must be tired..certainly Castro wanting Soviet missles in Cuba is not that same as the Soviets thinking that they could get away with placing them there....come on you have standards to maintain......
